Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving. -

The second part is that they can use their reserve funds. The third one is to raise property taxes," said Iowa House Speaker Pat Murphy. "I think everybody here in the Legislature would like to see property taxes used as a last resort."
Wait for it.

Re: Midyear Tuition Hikes Possible
Oh, and why does Iowa State need all brand new vehicles of which many just sit out and don't move? Why does Iowa State need more expensive hybrids/flex fuel vehicles?
I could go on and on about irresponsible spending if you let me. -

Property taxes aren't so bad in Iowa, in KC I have to pay them each year on my car as well.
With the economy in the shape it is in, there is going to be shortfalls for any institution that relies on taxes for their revenue. Corporate and invididual incomes are obviously way down, and property values are down in many places as well (at least that should results in lower property taxes).
It'll come back eventually though, I actually figured the economy would be much worse by now, considering that a year ago our entire financial system was on the brink of collapse. I feel really bad for students graduating right now though, what a tough job market to enter.

I'll give this one a crack...most of those vehicles were probably requisitioned before the economy when BOOM!!! Meaning...The entire country thought they were going to have the same budget so they purchased the vehicles from the budget that they had. Now if they have bought more since the budget cuts they need to be justified.
Also, would you rather have the university pay a little more for a vehicle now or more for gas later?? Personally, I would rather see them not pay as much for fuel when those cars that don't move actually move.

I started in 1999, and graduated in 2005, my bro started in 1996 and I think it nearly (or did) doubled in that decade. Of course salaries didn't double, and the cost of tons of other necessary things went way up to... no wonder our economy went off a cliff. At least Gin and Tonics still were 75 cents at Thumbs on Thursday!

Re: Midyear Tuition Hikes Possible
ISU tuition is getting to be a ripoff... I paid $750 my first semester in the 90s. That was not really that long ago.

Re: Midyear Tuition Hikes Possible
God am I glad I'm not in school anymore.
One year of dealing with paying more than any other undergrad was enough. Base Tuition + Differential + Ridiculous Computing Fee for CprE (what the hell is that one for). This is out of control.
