I'm an idiot.
The professor already posted an answer key.
anyone else ever run into this? Yes, my senior year - AND THEN I WAKE UP - honestly it is a nightmare that I have at least once a year. I wake up in a cold sweat and it usually takes a minute or so before I realize it was just a dream.
That being said I hope you can work something out. Good luck.

I about did that, till I randomly checked webct today to find out it's actually tomorrow night at 7 instead of 9:45am Thurs.

Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
Most profs realize mistakes happen and let you take the exam. I missed an exam once cause I slept through it, emailed and called the prof as soon as I realized I slept through my alarm, when he called me back I was riding the elevator to his office, luckily he let me take the exam as soon as I showed up. Hope you end up being able to take the exam, s/he will prob give you a make up exam since the answer key is posted. Don't lie to the prof, they have heard every excuse, just be honest and sincere that you thought the exam wasn't until later in the week.

Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
I overslept my freshman year missing an Econ final (the class started at 11am all semester and the final started at 8am - slept right through it). The final was 40% of my grade and went from an A to a D, the professor told me "well I bet you don't sleep through next semester's final when you are retaking the class." He was a dick.

Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
Would it work better to ask in person or over that e-mail?
As a future professor (I hope), I think I'd be more likely to say "Too bad" to the e-mail, because it's so impersonal. In person, I'd have a chance to try to better judge something like sincerity, truthfulness, and such. In person, I'd be more likely to say yes to the request, I think.

Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
I skipped a final once only because I would still have an A with a zero on the final.
My father went to Pharmacy school at UofI. He missed a final exam because my mother went into labor. The professor refused to let him reschedule, and it was the only F he had ever received. The final counted for half the grade. He ended up having to retake the entire class.

Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
I had a very similar thing happen to me once, also a Physics (222) exam. I had just misread the schedule in the Daily. I was doing some last minute studying in Physics hall, about an hour before I thought the test started. I saw a girl from my class walk in, and she said “what’d you think of the final?” Uh-oh… I ran down to Kildee and got there with about 30 minutes to spare. The TA rolled his eyes and said I could either try taking it then, but he was not allowed to give me extra time, and he promised me I would not finish it but I could get partial credit. Or, I could track down the professor and talk to him, and see if he would give me additional time to take it, while risking that he would not and I wouldn’t even get partial credit. I opted for the latter, tracked the prof down in Physics Hall, and he gave me an hour and a half to take the test in an empty office by myself. I think I ended up with a B+ or A- in the class. The moral of the story is: I hope you’re as lucky as me! Good Luck! -
Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
I have this dream pretty regularly it seems. One or twice a year I'd guess. It never happened to me in real life though.
I tried very hard on Sunday to talk myself into blowing off a final paper that was due yesterday. I knew I already had enough points in the class to earn a B- so I was trying it on to see if that felt good enough. I ended up finishing the paper because an A was still reachable. I'll probably end up with an A- for my efforts though.

As I was working on it (in the dream) the letters were turning into space shuttles and taking off from the page.
It made me think that these weekends they're having us work right now are taking a toll.

Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
I slept through one once.
Called the professor right away and left a message. It was a big lecture class so they had a make up time already scheduled, but only if you made arrangements in advance. Left a couple more messages but never heard either way so I went with the assumptive close, "Unless I hear from you I will assume it is ok for me to make up the final on Friday...."
Walked in, she had tests with everyone's names on them except one for me. Once I told her who I was she said, "I got your messages. No problem taking it now. I used to do that all the time." Talk about lucky....but would it have killed you to call me back?

Re: Anybody ever just skip a final?
Wow. I never came close to missing a final or misreading a schedule. I think stuff like this happens more often in big classes at big schools. Still glad I didn't do my undergrad at ISU. Good luck getting a retake though. I don't miss that part of the college experience!
Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving. -

This is exactly how I would handle it too. In person makes it so easy to tell if you are being BSed.
