I graduated in 02 and had a decent gpa. In my time at ISU I didn't attend half of my classes. I would guess I went to about 40% of all my classes. Went maybe once a week to some, others I didn't miss. There were some were I went the first day, first test, second test, and then the final. I did sleep though one mid-term test, but took it later that day.
And I am proving Dean Wormer wrong, you can go through life fat, drunk, and stupid.
I pulled that off for my first two years and it bit me in the @ss fall of my junior year. By the third week the only class I went to with any sort of real consistency was a technical writing class that I had with a friend who lived in our building and walked over with me in the morning. What I didn't account for was the sudden increase in course difficulty that semester and by mid-terms I was so stressed about the whole situation I had trouble sleeping at night. I am almost positive that is when that recurring dream started.
Because of this thread I just doubled checked to make sure my final is tomorrow and not today.
Professors are required to have an option for you to take it during the scheduled final time. They might not follow this rule, but the university does... They can have an alternate time, but they still have to have it during the scheduled time as well.
My boss has worked here over 25 years and that is what he just told me.... FWIW.
God bless Dr. John Hill, I was allowed to take the test thursday morning. Apparently I was not the only person to make this mistake though, he said at least 3 people did.
Thank you for telling me this, I definitely had this as back up ammo in case things didnt go my way.
Got loaded and forgot about my Excercise Science 255 final. Still got a C in the class
15 years out and still have dreams where I am sitting in class, look down and am not wearing pants.
Sort of. I missed on Physics final do to bad road conditions- was able to take a make up.
I also missed my final on the entry level computer class (forgot what it was called). It was online but you had to take a few tests in a proctored lab in the basement of Carver. Anyway, I had a test on Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs so I decided I would go in on Friday to take my final in that class. Found out too late that the last day to take it was on Thurs- I felt like an idoit. I barely passed the class.
My brother slept through a final this morning. Sounds like the prof let him take the test though.
I got two stories.
First myself in Calc 2. I didn't exactly skip. I was doing very well in the class and only needed like 15% on the final to get an A in the class. I did about 1/3 of the test and suddenly had the urge to pee really bad. It was a big lecture hall final and I asked if I could l step out the professor was a jerk and said no the door is closed once the final starts. I went back did a little more work decided I had the A locked up and turned it in and went to pee. Everyone looked at me on the way out like "damn how'd he get done so fast."
Second was the next semester and a guy I knew from high school and once again Calc (maybe 3 or diff eq). Kind of a loaner/nerdy guy, but a nice guy and fairly smart. He was doing terrible in Calc and asked what he should do. He said he went through the numbers and there was no way he was going to pass unless he Aced the final. I said if it was me I'd just blow that one off and make sure I did good on the other ones. He listened to me and skipped the final. When the grades were posted he just barely failed. His parents ended up freaking out and pulled him out of school. Now instead of being an engineer the last I heard he's working in a factory somewhere. I always felt bad about that (although if we couldn't do the simple math required to figured out it was possible for him to pass engineering probably wasn't for him).
This semester, one of my roommates was on the fast track to Academic Dismissal because she never went to any of her classes and was failing all of them. She dropped all of her classes except for two because they were the only two she still had a chance of getting a C- or above in. Then she didn't go to either of the finals. Looks like I'll be getting a new roommate next semester!
As for me, my freshman year I was up until 6 AM finishing up the final project for a class the night before it was due. My friend and I walked back to our dorm together, making jokes about how funny it would be if we stayed up all night finishing the project and then overslept and missed the class. Well, guess who slept through their alarm and woke up an hour after the class was over?
