Elevators spend more time not working than working. Building itself is worn. Floors are terrible. Always loud.
Underground parking is nice. Legends is convenient. Close to campus.
Re: Best apartment complexes?
I never had any problems with Haverkamp, but when I lived in a Jensen building I had tons of problems with their management. They once sent out a flyer saying that parking at our building was no longer assigned. So my then girlfriend (now my wife) and I start parking wherever the hell we want. We wake up one morning to find our car has been towed. I call up the Jensen office and get told that parking was still assigned and that they would not pay for the impoundment fee even after I showed them the letter they sent out. Turns out it was for a different building but accidentally delivered to us. Property manager would not budge and after getting the run around from them I emailed Dixson Jensen. Never heard back from him, so I decided I wouldn't do business with a company that wouldn't accept at least partial responsibility for a situation they created.

So what did you end up doing? Did you deduct the payment out of your rent?
Re: Best apartment complexes?
Nope, we ended up taking it in the *** on that one. I probably should've turned it into the Better Business Bureau. I also got charged upon checkout for a non clean dishwasher that literally was never used. Pretty much every maintainence request either took a while or was ignored. I once requested they trim the tree of an adjacent property just so that the few branches were hanging over my parking spot would keep the birds from crapping all over my car. I was told that they'd have to check with the property owner. I called their BS on that one and told them that the portion of the tree that overhung onto their property, was their property. Never had anything done about it. It was a pretty crappy apartment anyway and I was glad to get out of there. I think it was like 219 S Sherman over by bike world. We moved to 116 McDonald in West Ames across from HyVee. Much nicer area and Haverkamp was great. Older apartment but generally all my concerns with the property were addressed.
Re: Best apartment complexes?
Would highly recommend University West, specifically Fieldstone Grand. Really nice apartments and even though its away from campus the bus runs all the time.

This. I lived there for almost 2 years. Very nice. Had only a couple minor problems that got taken care of, but never anything major. Hell, when I moved out I didn't clean a damn thing and still got back 90% of my deposit!

We're in the 5 bedrooms, they're awesome. The extra 10-20 minutes riding the bus to campus is definitely worth it.
Re: Best apartment complexes?
Out of all of the apartments I had when I was at school (I lived in west, east, central Ames and right next to campus), the most memorable apartments were the ones next to campus/bars because I could go to the bars and get to class quicker. Those were the days....
The best service and quality apartments was through Jensen. I never had a problem with those guys, and they seemed to treat me pretty square when I had any issues. No deposit issues either!
