As far as your rock rap preferences: You had Mike Jones, godawful. Wasn't there a riot because of him? Not sure, could be wrong. Point is, he sucked. Then you had Trapt last year. What a joke! Headstrong! HEADSTRONG!!!! Be greatful with you got in a great lineup this year. I agree with that. The University has cut the amount that they give to the VEISHEA committee by $100k combined in the past two years due to the economy. I've always thought that they would be better served to find young, up and coming bands that they could get fairly cheap. Bands that usually play the small concert bars like Peoples in DM. I like that approach more than going after a one hit wonder from 5-10 years ago like eve6.
I also don't mind the whole wristband thing. They open it up VEISHEA week so that you can buy pretty much as many as you need. What's the problem again? $5 for two nights of music? If you can't afford that, you got major financial issues.

However, if they went back to multiple free stages then I would support eliminating the "name" bands for local groups.

Re: VEISHEA Music
I'm not overly impressed with the lineup... way too much pop rock than I care for. MCS will be good to see on Friday, therefore I'll probably see fun. as well because I like hearing the Battle of the Bands. But Saturday will be bad: Leslie and the LYs is ******* joke, why would you honestly wanna go see them... Never been much of a hellogoodbye fan, same applies to Emerson Drive. Envy Corps is always at the M-Shop so not a new act there. However, Down with Webster looks like it could be fun, they are most definitely the "hip-hop" group this year, not Leslie and the LYs like some tool said earlier, even though they are more party rock than hip-hop... Kinda pumped to see them.

Battle of the Bands is usually all local, isn't it?

Re: VEISHEA Music
Emerson Drive is the only band I'm interested in (and really even heard of...) out of everything.
Not that it matters to me, since I have to take the FE on Saturday and will not be going out Friday night. Saturday night, the intent is just to get as smashed as possible. Probably won't go to any concerts.

The problem with the wrist band thing is that you have to plan out the night around the band if you get one. It also goes the other way around, where if you decide at the last minute you want to see the bands you cannot because you did not pay in advance. My freshmen year 2006-2007 school year we did not plan our weekend until that friday because we weren't sure what we felt like doing. But basically it denies people an activity to participate in if they change at the last minute.

I'm sure that won't have any negative consequences.

And thats what I did the last two years, the wrist bands limit the possibilities of what everyone can do. Instead of taking a break or delaying drinking for a few hours, they will go straight through it.

It's not that five dollars or advanced sales is some totally unreasonable way for the university to hold on campus concerts. It's that it totally flies in the face of why they moved concerts onto campus in '06 to begin with. You've now taken it away as an attractive entertainment option that slows down the drinking for a large portion of the partying students. Dumb.

Re: VEISHEA Music
I'm really excited for Motion City Soundtrack, and I guess Envy Corps, hellogoodbye, and fun. are ok, but I'm pretty "meh" towards them. The others I couldn't care less about.

The groups overall are more in line with the culture of the college of design and not so much that of the rest of the university. Aren't we allowed to have rock and rap? Is emo and soft rock the only thing allowed at ISU anymore? I mean, Leslie and the Lys as the 'rap/hip-hop group'? Are you joking? Veishea used to have three stages at the same time with music going pretty much all night on all three. What happened to the days of getting actual hip hop and actual rock groups? I remember going to my second veishea in 07 and seeing saliva and chris cagle. I'm honestly getting tired of all this soft rock nonsense that seems to be the favorite of a few members of the committee and so gets forced on the rest of the university.
I totally agree... hellogoodbye is such a wimpy *** band.

My thought is that is you don't think enough of the bands to buy tickets on Monday, then you're not going to be upset if you miss the bands if they happen to sell out by Friday night. Seems to me that if you have a bunch of people coming to stay and you tell them what the bands are...at that point, people are either going to be excited or meh. If they're "meh" now, and they're "meh" on Monday of VEISEA week, then they shouldn't be all mad if they can't get tickets on Friday of VEISHEA.
I think that it's people getting mad just to be mad. Upset for no reason. A lot of concerts, it's impossible to buy tickets the day of.
