Math Elective
I'm supposed to be taking a math elective, anyone know of some easy math classes here at Iowa State?

Re: Math Elective
How far did you go in math in high school? The only math classes I've taken were Trigonometry and Business Calc. Both were painfully easy, but I took calculus in high school.

Re: Math Elective
I've taken Calc 1,2,3 and Diff EQ at Iowa State

Re: Math Elective
If Math 105 will count as an elective for you, that is your best bet. 150 ain't bad.

I'm in Electrical engineering, i thought it was kind of odd too but I wont complain about a GPA boost

Re: Math Elective
I took a really easy one, I think it was called like theory of matrix algebra or something like that. I believe it was a 300 level. But watch out for linear algebra. I believe that course number was just off by 1 and from what I have heard, that is not a fun class at all.

Re: Math Elective
If its like my math elective I took (I was CE) you will only have the choice of a handful of classes. I think it was referred to as a numerical analysis elective. I took Theory of Matrices (along with most other CEs I knew for the elective). It wasn't too bad of a class, some things were hard but most won't be bada at all for you if you have taken all of those Calc Classes.
Whatever you do don't take Theory of Linear Graphs and Networks (I took it because it had the least amount of prerequisites of the options, but it is pretty much a grad level course in Math and impossible for most who aren't math majors and I dropped it).
Of course, if you really can choose just any math class, there has to be some really, really easy ones for you to take.

Re: Math Elective
Okay, I think I found it on the department website. Math 307 - Matrices and Linear Algebra, that is a winner. Avoid Math 317 - Theory of Linear Algebra at all costs.

I can confirm the Math 317 part. Being on Linear Algebra, I figured it would be easy. I ended up dropping the course after the first test.
If I remember correctly, I ended up taking an Industrial Engineering course for my numerical elective. I don't know if yours has to be math or not. I took IE 312 which is Optimization.

Re: Math Elective
Anything if you can get Doolittle as your professor. Had her in 165/166 not sure if she is still teaching at ISU though.
