Campus freaks me out during the summer...
I know there are classes somewhere, and tons of grads and post docs researching, but I feel like it's just me and the construction guys sometimes.

Summer is the only time I ever felt like I was missing something by being in Ames. Summer of 01 and 02 just plain sucked!

I loved summer classes and everything about them.
But I guess my situation was different.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers. -

I actually enjoyed my summers in Ames. Although, it was more boring, especially with less people at the bars, it was still nice to just relax and not have that "busy" feeling all the time. The disc golf courses were less busy, the streets and stores were less crowded, everything was just a little more laid back and relaxed. Plus, it made it much more exciting the week before classes when everybody comes back and you get that "college" feeling again.

Working during Christmas break on campus is much worse. Dark early and even less people around.

I had a blast when I stayed for the last two summers of my college career. Head to the bar, you'll get to know all the people that stuck around. Some of the best friends I made in Ames were the ones I met in the summer.

The summers were the best....each bar had its night of the week depending on the specials, and those of us who were working in Ames over the summer went out just about every night. It was roughly the same 20 or 30 people that would go to the same bars each night. Also, we were working full-time so we had money!!!

On top of that you get to know all the bar staffs which comes in very handily when the masses come back to campus. No waiting in lines to get in, no waiting for a drink at the bar, and magically I drank more and my bar tabs went down. -

Personally I loved summer in Ames, it was always nice for it to be warm and walk to the bars in shorts and flip flops and chill out. I also went to a crapload of ICubs games in the summer, so that was always fun.

I never stayed there during the summer, but I had friends who did, and I always liked coming down to Ames and going out in the summer. As others have said, really laid back and just a lot of fun. Always seemed like there were some good parties, and fun crowds at the bar.

Summer Ames is probably the thing I miss most about college. No lines for bars and nice weather.
