Ross is a soulless building, aesthetically. Some of those Science (Science I and II, etc) buildings are pretty drab as well.

Re: Coolest looking/Ugliest building on campus
Town Engineering - Ugly, old, the building was built purely for functionality with no aesthetics in mind. I guess that would make it perfect for Civil Engineering. It also stinks from the Asphalt Lab on the 1st floor. Yep, had to spend the majority of my collegiate time there, I'd go over to the Design Building for lunch and it was like a completely different world.

I'll say that the buildings that I like the most are Lagomarcino and the renovated Morrill. My "WTF were they thinking" buildings would start with Science 2 and Town Engineering.
BTW, if anyone wants to see how some of the new buildings are coming along, here are some webcams: ISU Facilities Planning and Management I always thought Memorial Union was impressive. It has all kinds of nooks and crannies and it looks tall and not so tall at the same time. I don't know any other way to describe it. It's almost like an optical illusion.
And it has different appearances depending on which direction you're looking from, almost different styles of architecture. Looking from one direction, it looks like some low-slung, edifice with a terrace to catch the summer breeze that you might see on the Mediterranian shore, and from another angle, it looks like a stone fortress in the Austrian Alps or a five-star hotel in New York.

Ross and Carver aren't going to win any beauty awards any time soon. Town isn't exactly a looker either.

I had a job in one of the Town labs on the first floor as an undergrad. It was the environmental lab. Basically testing all kinds of environmental samples...from water from Sailorville lake to hog/cattle lot lagoons. Testing manure for Nitrogen was pretty much cooking poop. That was probably the smell you're talking about.

Always liked how Howe, Design, and the Parks Library looked. Also liked Moli Bio.
I think Gilman had to be the windiest building on campus, loved how there was a wind tunnel running through their and papers flying everywhere.

Re: Coolest looking/Ugliest building on campus
When I first stepped foot on the ISU campus, there were "temporary" WWII surplus structures in the courtyard west of Bearshear / north of Carver / south of the Hub, and this was in 1981. You youngsters have no idea how far that campus has come...
I don't like the blue-glass library addition - never have - should have matched the architecture of the original building...
How can people profess love for Beardshear and leave out it's cross-campus counter anchor, Curtis?

Re: Coolest looking/Ugliest building on campus
The Physics department set out to create a space void of any creativity. They accomplished the nearly impossible feat, and it was eventually named Carver Hall, and given to Math and Business......
The Design building is interesting from the outside, but I once had an Art professor who said no real art could ever come from that place. I don't think he liked the way the inside was arranged, or the fact the rooms and doors had numbers on them. He was a great teacher....one of the best I had. Re: Coolest looking/Ugliest building on campus
I spent most of my undergrad in Ross. Just a terrible building.
I like Beardshear for the size. Catt is pretty cool. Lago was always nice to chill in the courtyard between classes.
