Coolest looking/Ugliest building on campus
Some holiday weekend discussion: What buildings do you think are the best looking on campus and which ones do you walk by and think "Man, either they ran out of money or the architect was pretty bad".
I'll say that the buildings that I like the most are Lagomarcino and the renovated Morrill. My "WTF were they thinking" buildings would start with Science 2 and Town Engineering.
BTW, if anyone wants to see how some of the new buildings are coming along, here are some webcams: ISU Facilities Planning and Management -

Catt and Morrill are beautiful old buildings. Carver displays all the style of communist-bloc architecture.

Catt is awesome for sure. I'd say Lago's courtyard & history makes it cool, not necessarily the building/rooms themselves.

Cool: Beardshear. It's just impressive, and somewhat stunning. It really gives the Campus it's stately feel.
Bad: Moli Bio. Those statues in the corners are just tacky.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -

I love old buildings, and love the arts... but the 'steel puke' that they put on the East Side of Morril is HORRIBLE! That's my WTF were they thinking moment. I wish it were something period, or modest. Not Modern and all steel. hate hate hate hate it.

I do think that they've done a good job with designs in the last 15 years. Howe/Hoover look good and kind of futuristic. I think that the new biorenewables complex is going to look awesome once its done. The new chemistry building is kind of weird because it looks like they used siding rather than brick on part of it. Gerdin is a good looking building.

I thought Morril looked great, but adding that piece of art right to the front of it was a bad idea. Too big, too gaudy for an old building.

Re: Coolest looking/Ugliest building on campus
For the oldschools, I really like Beardshear. For the newer stuff, I think Howe is the winner. I understand that I may have a bit of a bias on that one.
For buildings I think flopped, I would probably say Town Engineering was bad. I was never a fan of Black either.

Oh, and although it is off main campus we shouldn't forget Stephens Auditorium. I appreciate that building more and more with every campus I visit.

Catt is definitely very cool looking. New Alumni building looks good. The MU is pretty solid, I think the addition tied in pretty seamlessly.

the engineering/computer science/stats buildings west of the library are all incredibly boring looking

I agree with Carver Hall and Sci II is just confusing to be in and to look at. My fave building is Hilton Coliseum, built in '71, it still looks contemporary after 39 years this coming December.

Ross Hall is butt ugly unless you have a thing for blockish concrete with no windows in the classrooms.
I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others. -

Nothing worse than Gilman.
