I'm still trying to figure out why the Vet Med school is not even in the top 20. There are probably only 30 vet med schools across the nation.

That's why Jackson State University (MS) is 22nd overall with 76% of their students receiving Pell Grant money.

It's from 2007, but gives some interesting information - basically says the best vet med school is the one you get in to, and the rankings really don't mean a whole lot, since all 28 schools are in the same organization and must meet the same standards. Re: Iowa State 2010 USNews Ranking
The rankings really only mean anything if you're applying to grad school. Undergrad education is pretty much the same anywhere. Does anyone really think that physics or calculus are any harder or better at Harvard than at Iowa State? they're both accredited, which means that they both meet the same guidelines of what you are supposed to be able to do when you're done. The rankings are just a way of justifying spending large sums of money on selective schools that won't flunk you once you're in.

Re: Iowa State 2010 USNews Ranking
I think there is a difference in the undergrad education at different schools but I don't think they're represented by these rankings. I know the Duke undergraduate program is kind of a running joke here at NC State. They only require something like 90 credits to graduate while NC state requires about the same as ISU - about 128-130 credits for an undergrad degree. Duke's defense is that "their credits are from Duke so blah blah blah". They're really only giving 3/4 of a bachelor's degree at 3 times what it should really cost.
As far as graduate school rankings go, it is pretty much by department ranking only. I'm a grad student in soil science. The top ranked programs are land grant universities which typically rank relatively low. ISU and NC State for example were both tied for 88th in this ranking, but for me that's irrelevant since their soil science/agronomy programs are some of the best in the country.

from what i remember looking into it their credits were the same, Duke did a weird system though. A "duke credit" was like 1 credit for realistically a 4 hour class, and you were supposed to average around 4 credits a semester. Equivalent to 16 hour credits here.
