Student Tickets
Warning: Rant coming.
NEW this year ALL STUDENT SEASON TICKETS will be loaded electronically to your ISU ID card before the first event of the season. Students will then need to provide their ISU ID card at the student entrance where their Student ID will be swiped through a card reader that will give them access to the event. The student ID must be in working order and the Mag Stripe must be able to be scanned. If an ID is not in working order the Student ID can be replaced free of charge at the ISU Card office. If a student loses their card there is a $25 fee to get the ID replaced. This will apply for all sporting events. An email will be sent in August with more information.
Just got this from a friend. Somebody in the ticket office REALLY screwed the pooch on this one. I was in too big of a hurry buying my tickets to even read the screen that showed that.
#1 Who decided that sliding all student IDs was a good thought? Have they ever seen how long it takes with ISU Dining?
#2 Good bye student attendance, especially for basketball games. Transferability of tickets is now near impossible. Now instead of me being able to give my ticket to a friend, I get to leave my seat empty. Nice job dumbasses. Apparently they enjoyed looking at a half empty student section last year in Hilton, a problem they just made worse.
#3 I'm sorry ticket people. You're going to get absolutely plowed at the gates. College students are going to be running you over, and I'll probably be one of them, so I apologize ahead of time.
#4 Iowa State students: I'd highly recommend replacing your student ID since it's free, and God only knows if your magnetic stripe is in working order anymore unless you have it set up as a debit card.
#5 Iowa State Athletics Department: Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible move. I'm failing to understand how this one even makes sense. You have 35,000 other people with paper tickets. Now you're leaving entrance up to electronics? Your electronic ticket scanners suck half the time already, and now we're going completely automated? Brilliant.
#6 Buying $99 corner basketball tickets now makes complete sense. Pay for Cyclone Alley (that's a rant for later), save $25, be able to transfer your tickets. Sounds like a complete win scenario.

Re: Student Tickets
So, does it mention any "manage your ticket" option? I know that was handy for us with a couple of games last year. If you transferred your ticket that way, would it charge it to their ISUCard account?
Doesn't sound like a great idea, but does it mention anything in that vein?

Re: Student Tickets
This really isn't the best idea. For all reasons mentioned above, and also because students often transfer tickets. Yeah you buy student season tickets, but what if you can't make it to a game? You used to just give them to a friend, or sell them for 10 bucks either way it is less people in the crowd.

Re: Student Tickets
Does this apply to Cy's Passes too?

Re: Student Tickets
Stupid idea. This will really hurt student attendance in all sports.

Re: Student Tickets
I emailed Jamie about it and we'll see what he says.

Re: Student Tickets
You can also buy hillside tickets for football games for $99. A better deal than paying $125 for the the season as well. Just walk down the northeast hillside and jump over the concrete barrier.

Re: Student Tickets
This is an example of using too much technology...

Re: Student Tickets
This is really, really stupid. I'll probably email Jamie tomorrow.
Not like it will do anything, but he seems receptive to these kinds of things.
