Re: Lady Gaga/Campanile
This makes me want to hurl. A sound like that should never come out the campanile we love so much.
Not only should the organist be fired, they should be tarred, feathered, AND forced to go to every stop of a Lady Gaga tour and stand in the front row with the 50,000 screaming 12 year old girls!

LOL I am not a Lady Gaga fan either but it was cool to see eveyone talking about Iowa State. The organist is amazing imo, I think she has been there for a long time!

Re: Lady Gaga/Campanile
Never thought I would hear that song coming out of the Bells. Even though it was Gaga, another reason why the Camponile is so awesome. A random pop song in the middle of the day.

First off, I think that Lady Gaga has some talent. She may try a little too hard to go over the top and be the next Madonna, but she can sing a little, can play instruments (which is more than a lot of pop stars can say today) and if she is the one writing those songs, she's got some major talent in that area, because those songs are freaking catchy.
Second, as far as the campanile and ISU go, IMO any publicity is good publicity. There are people who live in Ames that don't know that the campanile exists, much less in Des Moines, or Omaha, or L.A. It's a bad thing that a view of our campus and our most recognizable campus feature went viral?? Sorry, but that's a GOOD thing. I LIKE that ISU is on the front edge of social media and not the back end. And I don't see that the playlist of the campanile needs to be restricted to classical music.

I doubt many people on here would admit to being a Gaga fan, but could still see the humor in the situation. Take a chill pill. I found it hilarious

Re: Lady Gaga/Campanile
Good old Terrible Tam is still at it I see! Anyone have her fill in once in awhile for Dr. Hothead Stuart in Music 102?

Re: Lady Gaga/Campanile
Tim Tam's still got it!
When will she ever retire? As much as I've been around the Campanile often when it has been played (for special events and just the regular schedule) I don't think I have ever seen Tim Tam. She's like a "fart in the wind," a "legend in [her] own right," a "mysterious force that can't be contained."
I've never met her and she played the Campanile at my wedding a few years ago!!

I've never met her and she played the Campanile at my wedding a few years ago!! I have a buddy who played the Campanile on occasion. He was always going to play "Smoke on the Water" but never got around to it.

An organist plays an organ. A carillonneur plays a carillon, which is the instrument the bells in the campanile together make. It's quite different than playing an organ. There are no keys on a keyboard to be played with the fingers but rather batons that are struck down with the hands. Go up and see it if you ever get the chance. I just showed up there once and waited for the carillonneur to show up before his noon time performance and he took me and a couple others up with him. This was way back in the late '80's but I'm sure it probably hasn't changed much.

Re: Lady Gaga/Campanile
I'm guessing the inside of the campanile looked something like...

Re: Lady Gaga/Campanile
I was listening to kiss xm 21 on the way to urbandale tonight and they brought it up about the person playing has been fired...I wanted to send an email stating they play songs on fridays over the campanile. I didn't know it was a youtube hit but sweet that we are getting national publicity over xm radio!
Also, one of kanes sidekicks is from cedar rapids area and I ran into him in dc working out there! Anybody know who I'm talking about?

Re: Lady Gaga/Campanile
I wasn't the biggest Gaga fan before, but after giving some of her album a shot, it actually isn't too bad, and very catchy. Major props go to her musical ability, too... you don't see many pop artists today being talented musicians as well.
Also, I imagine that Justin Bieber probably has the tween demographic pretty much wrapped up. Her song writing and music videos are much too dark for the young ones to appreciate.
