I'm going to take a guess at the reasons he was let go by both teams is...

They hated him.

You've got your stories wrong. The NCAA has a lot to say about not playing college football on Friday nights, and taking attention away from high school football is by far the largest reason. I believe that they do rarely permit it under extenuating circumstances, but Friday night college games are (obviously) very rare. The notion that college football can't hold its own against high school games is absolutely ridiculous. There are a lot of organizations at work here, as well as the national public opinion that has been ingrained, but the reason you came up with is not at all why college games are on Saturday.

Darn it - I knew I shouldn't listen to what color commentators had to say

Re: Interesting article on the UFL (new football league being proposed)

Yes, it might be true that some people will watch a new football league on Friday night, but enough people have to watch it to make it financially feasible. I think Friday night is just a bad idea. That's HS football night. Parents, relatives, and neighbors go to watch the local kids play...they have stake in the particiapnts. Kids that play football, and cheerleaders, and kids that play in the marching band, and kids that go to the games to socialize are also "fans" who won't be watching Cuban's league on Friday night. Then later in the year, the NBA starts up about October and plays night games, and also Friday night is HS BB night in many places.

If this new league wants the best talent, I don't see how the money for that is going to come from playing Friday nights on cable TV.

I don't watch HS football ... not because I don't like it, but because I live in an area that is not my hometown and I don't know anybody in the local high schools.

I think there are a lot of similar mes out there who wouldn't mind a game on at the sports bar instead of pool, poker or spelling bees.

I think this is the most promising idea. The USFL did the same thing and was doing well enough until Trump insisted on moving the season to the fall and going head to head with the NFL.

As far as the whole no fun league thing, its true that its somewhat overstated, but I think they do kill some of the personalities in the game. I never minded seeing Chad Johnson do Riverdance or Joe Horn pulling out the cell phone. Granted, at times it gets cheesy, but that stuff regulates itself in that if they get too lame people call them out on it. At least those guys celebrated touchdowns...it still kills me when a lineback struts after a tackle 8 yards downfield.

ufl = football overload

What is football overload? Explain this foreign concept to me.

I too would like to hear about this phenomenon. I've never encountered it. Reminds me of rumors about unicorns...

There could be football on all day, every day - and that still wouldn't be enough.

Perhaps if it were on every channel. But even then...maybe...
