Hello All,
I have the unique opportunity to have a close family member who is doing an article on Paul Shirley and has an interview with him tommorow. She asked me for some good ideas on questions, and I thought who better to get some of those questions but from die hard clone fans. So let me have them and you may just see your question and his answer in an upcoming article.

Ask him, why if Ames was such "Brutal, Brutal" place to be, you still accepted the scholarship offer and stayed on for your full eligibility and EVEN stayed longer post graduation to get your MBA?

I'll try to help you out. Ask him about the US's recent downturn in Olympic basketball competition and what he would suggest to get us back on top. And if he thinks the most recent team (with Hinrich, Carmelo & James) has a shot at it.

Ask him why quite a few Iowa State fans don't seem to know how to take a joke.
Ask him if he has ever played for a team with an many over-sensitive fans as ISU.
I've never seen so many people get their panties in a bunch over some tame jokes about Iowa State from a guy who makes fun of everybody and everything when he writes! And his jokes pretty much echo what everybody else who goes to Iowa State says. And most of the people who ***** about him have never even read or heard what he says anyways, just some out of context quotes from people on a message board.
Oh my god, he said Ames is cold and boring compared to some bigger cities. Yeah, thats real insulting. Really cuts like a knife.

Ask him what he is going to do after basketball. Is he going to use his degree or go in a different direction? I'm guessing he will live in KC, which is sooo much different from central Iowa. | | |

Paul Shirley is the best thing to come out of our basketball program for national pub in a long long time.

I would likely refrain from asking him, "What is a night on the town with LE like?"
More tasteful might be:
1) "We have read lots of the jokes about ISU, but what are your best memories from your time there?"
2) "You crack a lot of people up. Who have you played with that could make you laugh easiest?"
3) Can I keep the jersey? "How many do you really have and what have you done with them?"
4) "Did Fizer ever dunk on you in practice as bad as he did Mihm in a game?"
5) "If other players write a book and happen to mention him, what are the likely to say?"

You have been quoted as saying Ames is a "brutal, brutal place" with respect to recruiting. What could be done to make a university in a small Midwestern city more attractive to potential recruits?
