From purely a spectator point of view, it doesn 't get any better than women's beach volleyball...

I guess I will agree that soccer is easy to start at a young age because there are only a handful of rules, which haven't changed in years. Unlike football and NASCAR (and maybe others) where rules are constantly tweaked.
Good to see some old fashioned name calling!
I saw a program about balls on the History Channel (if I recall correctly) and they pointed out that some sports try to keep their ball the same through time (baseball) while some sports have utilized technology to improve their ball to make the game easier (soccer, golf, and bowling).
Hey, I have a question on the rules. The last World Cup (I think, if I remember correctly) there was a game that ended 0-0 but someone still "won" the game. How exactly does that work?

Now there is an MLS game of the week on ESPN2, and they also showed Champions League games as well.
Don't change what I said either, it isn't hard to kick a soccer ball, what is said is how and where you want. I'll put you through some drills with my jv team and I bet you couldn't do what they can with the ball, let alone the varsity.
Oh, and soccer is very huge in Asia, they worship David Beckham, I believe some of the MLS games are being negotiated to be broadcast in China after Beckham starts. There used to be no poker on TV but now it is on all kinds of channels at all times of the day...I guess poker is significantly more popular than soccer! Frankly, getting on TV is not all that tough anymore...a zillion channels with many that are "niche" focused (with very little viewership may I add).
You're probably right about your JV and Varsity teams...but I can hit a baseball!

Re: Head for the hills, soccer-haters!
Ok, the one big problem I have with soccer is the stupidest rule in all of sports. That offsides rule is ridiculous. A person can be on side, not move, and all of a sudden be offside if the defense moves forward. They should use a blue line like hockey, maybe it would open the sport to more excitement.
Also, I cannot handle the fake injuries. It is just so annoying to watch someone acting like they have been shot in the nuts one minute and be prancing around 2 min later.

Having said that, I believe that if all of our players make themselves available and they pick the right team with some shooters, some role players, some bangers, a good unselfish point, etc. and let them practice and play together for an extended period that we mop up all challengers. Basketball is a team game...you can't win by picking the 5 best scorers and have them practice for a couple of weeks in Hawaii (which is kind of what our approach has been).

Overall the league is much healthier than it has been in the past. I do know they are building stadiums...very small ones because they cannot fill a typical football stadium up (unless it is in Phoenix and 95% of the crowd is Mexican).

These are my biggest complaints about soccer, too. I don't hate soccer. I've actually been to several games (college, MLS, Olympic, and World Cup) and had a good time. But it will never capture my attention the way more "traditional" American sports do until they change the offsides rule. It's the most ridiculous, arbitrary rule in all of sports. It's the main reason why the score of a typical soccer game is something like 1-0. Get rid of the offsides rule, open up the field to more scoring, and soccer might actually catch on better in the U.S.
