Big 10 Network
Now I keep reading about the BTN wanting $1.10 / mo for their crap and guess what the cable companies are saying, "thanks, but no thanks"
It's about time the cable companies stand up to something - because if they raised my rates one more time, especially over something like the BTN - I might be forced to take my cable box and shove up someone's *****.
For the BTN, wouldn't have made sense to see who was interested in airing their network before dumping millions into getting it set up? Or would that have made too much sense for the Big 11???

Re: Big 10 Network
They actually can carry only so many channels. Dilution by pollution.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Big 10 Network
If my rates go up so I can watch Purdue women's volleyball... Sorry Mediacom. Buh-bye.

Biggest thing is that BTN is wanting basic cable carriage (not to mention the price), cable companies are saying "we'll put BTN on a digital sports tier". It's NFL Network carriage issues all over again.

Re: Big 10 Network
It should be on the digital sports tier. Plus the big 10 wants $1.10 per subscriber per month. That is really high!

Re: Big 10 Network
Cable/satellite companies need to start saying no to these outrageous prices because once you give in a few times, other networks/channels will exploit that and there goes your cable bill.
-
Re: Big 10 Network
Your cable rates will NOT go up unless you subscribe to the digital sports tier channels 171 thru 178. Thats where mediacom is planning on parking the big ten network, if and only if, they can get a better price than $1.10 per subscriber.
Heck the southeast portion of the country is getting the big ten channel for ten cents per subscriber.
Looks to me like the old little eleven is going to soak every big ten er little eleven fan in the midwest and give it away for little or nothing to the rest of the country.
I also wrote a letter to mediacom stating that if my cable bill goes up because of the little eleven I will drop mediacom like a bad habit!!!
Gravy Baby thats all the Big 10 network is and ever will be!!!!

Dish Network does a pretty good job at keeping rates low. They've refused to add YES Network to their lineup and aren't afraid of pulling various networks off the their lineup to make a point. At $1.10 per subscriber for those living in Big 10 states, i'd be surprised if you see BTN on Dish Network.
There's a reason why DirecTV tends to be more pricer than Dish Network and BTN is why. Then again, if you're a sports junkie, DirecTV is the place to be.

This is hilarious because of what happened when I went to return my cable box yesterday. The guy told me that if I disconnected my cable box, and kept regular cable, my bill would be $120/mo. instead of the $85 it was with the box. I "accidentally" bumped into the box on my way out after completely shutting off all cable, breaking their box into about 50 pieces. I think I can claim a moral victory for that.

Haha, $120 a month for cable, that is silly, you can get the full platinum directv package for that.

I told them that I was going to switch to DirectTV and they ended up knocking $20/mo off for 6 months to make me happy. So I guess I am stuck with Mediacom for at least 6 more months.

Re: Big 10 Network
We just signed a contract with them at work last week. I wish we werent forking out the dough but with all the hawkeye homers in this town. Had to put it on expanded cable so everybody could watch the crap and also put it on HD.

Re: Big 10 Network
i was curious if the Mediacom rates in Des Moines were the same as they are in Cedar Rapids.
In CR its $90 for the base cable package (no HBO, sports package), HD channels, and DVR. Is that comparable to DM????

Re: Big 10 Network
All we have is the Basic Cable so we only get 23 channels no ESPN, no Comedy Central. The best we get is TBS, WGN and Discovery. We pay $19.99 per month for that garbage! Our internet is $46/month. Are you kidding me? Mediacom is ridiculous. Luckily they have a monopoly on this stuff so they can continue to charge these amounts.
We do not have a home phone, just cell phones. Are we able to get satellite? Also, Qwest says we cannot get DSL here, any other ideas for cheap internet without a home phone? I want to drop mediacom at all costs.
