Blalock/Pistons
Are Will's chances to make it in Detoit coming to an end?
The Pistons have drafted 3 guards tonight.
Rd 1 - #15(15) Rodney Stuckey (G) Eastern Wash.
Rd 1 - #27(27) Arron Afflalo (G) UCLA
Rd 2 - #27(57) Sammy Mejia (G) DePaul ESPN.com: Detroit Pistons Roster
Also, is that a misprint on the roster? There is no way Weber is making only $400,000 and less than Will right?

Re: Blalock/Pistons
Webber is still on his orginial contract, in addition to the 400k from Detroit.
The only good thing for Blalock is non of those guys they drafted are point guards and only MAYBE Stuckey could play spot duty at PG. With Lindsay Hunter thinking retirement, Will might be alright. Big summer league for him.

Re: Blalock/Pistons
Strong speculation is Blalock is on the outs with Detroit...Dumars was looking to deal him. And that was before tonight. Stuckey, Mejia and Afflalo almost guarantee he won't be back. It's too bad for Will, but several teams are going to be interested, if he is indeed cut. He'll wind up somewhere. Also, Webber signed mid-year for the veterans exception, i.e the minimum cap hit, or $400,000.

Chauncy Billups might be looking to test the free agent waters.

ESPN - Philly-Motown: Waived Webber to sign with Pistons - NBA
In Detroit, Webber will earn a pro-rated share of the league's $1.2 million veteran minimum, with $450,000 of that amount -- also pro-rated for the rest of the season -- picked up by the league office.

Re: Blalock/Pistons
Thanks for the update on the contract.
Caught some sports radio here in Detroit today. One reporter asked the same question I did about Blalock and Hunter.
Dumars said, "Nothing has been decided yet. This summer should help us make some of those decisions."

Re: Blalock/Pistons
I hope he makes it, but honestly he needs to head to Europe soon to get some money while he can. He's just never going to stick in the league. He can't shoot consistently, he can't finish. He is a wonderful passer and can get an offense started, but in the League you have to be able to shoot or there just aren't minutes for you at PG. Eric Snow was the worst shooting PG I've ever seen, but he is a tremendous finisher which makes up for it. Right now Will is neither.
You can either finish or you can't -someone ran some stats at one point from ESPN gamecasts and Will made something like 40% of his LAYUPS in his career here. Now the players are even bigger and stronger and his athleticism is not carrying him like it did to this point in his life.
I heard he's close to signing on with someone else out West to try to make their squad this year. I think he should do like Fizer and ink something now overseas rather than be mired in the NBDL playing 15 minutes per game.

Re: Blalock/Pistons
I would think Will will get a shot to make someone's roster and if not he might just wind up here in Des Moines too. I bet there is a good chance Stinson will be here as he already went overseas last year and came back because he didn't like it. The money is better over there but the way American players are treated sometimes are not always great in certain countries.
Will's future in Detriot will probably depend a lot on if Billups stays and if Hunter retires. If both are gone I would think they'd have to keep a PG that was in the system onboard. I'm not sure who all the FA PGs are this year but I know ESPN has Billups the #2 FA overall, Bucks Mo Williams at #5, Nuggets Steve Blake at #9 and Bucks Earl Boykins at #21 so not a good crop of PGs this year after Billups.

Re: Blalock/Pistons
Detroit didn't pick up Blalock's team option today, making him an unrestricted free agent. I thought he would stick with them another year, guess I was wrong. He will still get plenty of looks this summer, but overseas is probably the best bet. :(

Re: Blalock/Pistons
Will's chances are greek to me. Or maybe French. Or maybe Croatian. He needs to be on a team that needs more of a playmaker like the LA Kobies.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Blalock/Pistons
WHO WHAT THE SKINNY Team Option So Long Will Jul 3 - If the Pistons drafting three guards last Thursday wasn't a clear indication that Will Blalock's days were numbered, then Arron Afflalo showing up wearing Blalock's jersey No. 8 certainly was. The Pistons did not pick up their option on Blalock, leaving the point guard free to latch on with another team either here or abroad. Most likely, Blalock is going to have to battle his way back through the European circuit. He has to prove to NBA teams that he can stick an open 15-foot jump shot. -- Detroit News '00 Grad
