Question iDay - Who's getting an iPhone?

So, it's iDay, who's getting an iPhone? I didn't drive by the AT&T store in Ankeny or West Des Moines or the Apple store but planned on driving by over lunch to see how many were standing in line.

By the way, don't forget the even bigger event of the weekend, Die Hard 4 is out!!!

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

I heard on the radio that the iPhone II is coming out in the winter. Besides, how many bugs are going to be in the 1st generation of these things. Seems like there's always something wrong.

I would rather eat rancid tuna salad out of my own butt. In the end its just a cell phone and not worth the price tag. Im sure it will be popular, but until this thing has a bunch of apps for it and a smaller price tag it wont spread fast other than to the Apple slaves out there.

They obviously haven't announced anything like that. What you heard was just discussion about an independent marketing research firm (or something like that) called Gartner, that is saying they think Apple needs to release a cheaper model of the iPhone within 9 months. That's all it is.

How much do these things cost right now anyways?

I agree about waiting until round 2 of this device. I'm having fits with the Malibu I bought in '04 - completely redesigned version that year. Have bought a few other electronic items shortly after first release with similar results.

It's a lot of headache and not worth it - won't be buying cars/electronics/etc on their first run in the future.

Re: iDay - Who's getting an iPhone?

I would absolutely love one, only because I've been a mac enthusiast my entire life. However, it's way too expensive right now, but considering it's years and years ahead of its time, the price is worth it. People may look at the features and consider them gimmicks and not really worth the trouble, but it's definitely where the future is headed. A decade ago, you could scoff at the idea of a cell phone, claiming you could just use a house phone, or if you had one, a car phone. However, once features found in this phone get into a cheaper phone, you'll be wondering what you did before it!

I agree with most everyone, though, when it's suggested that you wait for the first revision of this thing. Let the loaded Apple diehards sort out the bugs and get the smoothed over version in about a year.

The phone is $600, and plans are a minimum of $60/month. Not even close to worth it, imo, but then again I just want my phone to be a phone. Apparently there are a lot of excited people out there with deep pockets.

I saw Die Hard 4 last night and it was amazing! I can't wait to see it again! No plot whatsoever (shocking, really ) but they did some ridiculous stuff!

If someone gave me one Im sure i would like it. Paying for it does not interest me. The technology that is tripping my trigger right now is the Microsoft's Surface technology.

Re: iDay - Who's getting an iPhone?

Well I'm a gadget and techno geek, dare I say ALMOST more than an ISU Fanatic, so it's fun to see all the excitement it's caused. In reality it doesn't do anything that my dozen or so smartphones haven't done but it's the way you go about doing those things on the iPhone that really is revolutionary. Instead of small menus and stylus actions on Windows Mobile, Palm, BlackBerry, etc you just swipe your fingers in different ways to do different things and there are no menus or cluttering effects anywhere.

The only downside to the product at it's current state is that it uses AT&T's 2.5G wireless network instead of the future 3G specs that they'll soon be rolling out in more areas. The 2.5G spec runs about the same speed as dialup whereas the 3G spec runs around DSL speed (along the lines of Sprint & Verizon's EVDO networks). Future versions of the phone will have that but it's one of the drawbacks of the first generation iPhone.

Personally I love technology and am willing to pay the price for it since it's more or less a hobby and I don't spend money on other things but I can't justify leaving my Sprint 3G service that I get at below Sprint Employee costs (don't ask) with free unlimited text, web, voice, etc for $30/month. The iPhone is a great device with very few drawbacks but what I'm really looking forward to is how it'll make other manufacturers and carriers innovate and come up with new ways of being competitive. I've used Smartphones for years and this will be a revolution of how we interact with the devices in much the same way the iPod changed how we interact with our mp3 players (yes they had many brands and kinds before the iPod).

By the way, my experience in Smartphones goes through the Treo 600p, Treo 650p, Treo 700p, Treo 700w, 8125, HTC 6700, Treo 700wx, BlackBerry 8703e, BlackBerry Curve, Treo 755p and the HTC Mogul 6800. And that's probably missing a couple along the line:)

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Pass... I just bought a macbook for the wife, and I am not sure I can stomach another apple product in the house. I am having a heck of a time getting this silly mac to do the things you would just expect it to do.
