If he sold single game tickets, it would be like the Pesident letting off Scooter.
It's my opinion that Marty is throwing this out there all the time in hopes that it will put pressure on JP to change his mind. He keeps throwing out Hawkeye speak like, "Ruin the Rivalry", "Can't have empty seats", etc. in hopes that people will start believing this. The only problem with this I see is that Iowa State fans don't see this as an issue. Here's the deal, you want a ticket to the Iowa ISU game, buy season tickets. Perfect, for us fans, that logic works out well. For Hawkeye fans, who've always found it easy to walk all over us in the past, and now suddenly, we step back, are the ones finding this difficult to digest. Most ISU fans, I'd imagine don't give a darn because we'll be at the game.
Would I rather have a jam packed stadium, yes, but, I want it full of ISU fans. I'd rather only have 35,000 screaming for ISU than to have a full house and have to deal with another 15,000 - 20,000 Hawkeye fans. And that's what gets Hawkeye fans. They can't possibly grasp the fact that we don't care that they aren't at the game. How dare we give up 15,000 seats usold when a Hawkeye fan would gladly buy it? They are finding out that what's important to Cyclone fans are the Cyclones, not the Hawkeyes and it's killing them. So, as I said, I believe this topic keeps coming up in their attempt to put pressure on JP. To make it seem like not having a full stadium is going to kill ISU. We've gone with plenty of other games without sellouts, we can do this this year. And then, as stated by others, people realize what they have to do to get into the big games.
We are building the program, it starts this year. Just as the team is not going to become a national contender overnight, our season tickets aren't going to all sell out overnight either. Plus, think about the timing of this issue. Yeah, we have Iowa at home, but, what better year to pull this off than this one. When we have Texas and OU coming to town. We can easily make up for those seats with what will probably be sold for those 2 games. Especially if the Clones become very competetive. Again, it goes back to the Hawkeyes maybe not being the biggest game on our schedule this year and that kills them. We have some big name opponents coming to Ames this year. And UT and OU have far more tradition and success than the Hawkeyes could ever dream of.
As much as others want to say JP is taking a risk here, it's hard for me to believe. It's the perfect year to pull this off. We've got a great jump on Season ticket sales. It's not going to take much from OU and UT to make up the difference here.
I have noticed one thing over at HN.com; more 'sensible' (Jumbo Shrimp!) UofI fans lean towards liking JP's style and a few even said they would consider him a huge get 2 years ago for the UofI.
What is funny is that Motor Mouth Marty runs his mouth on whatever will get people talking and calling in. He takes a stance that is so off the wall and that a normal person could comprehend and then a ton of people shoot all over the message boards and call in to his show. Perfect for his show and ratings. I personally could care less about talking about this issue and feeding his and Miller's egos as they watch you guys continue to talk about it through September when we can finally talk about the team rather than all these dumb politics surrounding sports.
REPEAT AFTER ME CHILDREN....This includes you Martin Tyrell!
JAMIE POLLARD IS A GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now children...Now that includes you Martin! What have we learned from this exercise?
That JP is CONDITIONING fans to the fact, that if you want to go to the games one must... BUY SEASON TICKETS!!!
Marty's at it again....
He's now saying he's getting emails claiming ISU Booster's are getting offered ISU vs. Iowa tickets by Pollard.
Will this madness ever end??
Now this is good radio! At least they are not talking about horse racing.
Marty is on his way to a panic attack.
Marty was refering to an email I sent to him Tues. in response to the Rgister's article on Pollard saying no single game tix to the Democrats. I was just giving him crap about his dilusion about the Iowa game tix. I dont know how this email is a big deal, and he lumps me in with a so-called booster that says they are secretly selling tix. I love the show, but why bring up my name.
And he responded with...Quote:
Sounds like anyday now single game tix will go on sale to the public. Good job outta you Marty! Maybe you're not insane afterall!?!
Well, Pollard IS caving...boosters are getting IOWA tickets for future
donations..pledges...this is a joke and ISU is looking very bad....Listen, I try and stay objective, but this is WHY ISU is where their at....build a winner and people wil coem and spend $$$...to put of this front of bravado and arrogance is quite frankly...sad. I've been part of a losing, down-trodden university program at UMASS and saw them rise to nation al prominence in basketball...then and only then did you see points programs for tickets and donations went wild...this is a house of cards....
