Re: ESPN's Key Dates to Watch
It may have, it may not have. Keep in mind, Texas had scored with about 6 minutes left in the half to go up 23-14. We did nothing with the ball (just one first down), giving it back to Texas quickly. They almost did nothing with it, until the penalty. After the Texas score, to close the half we went a mere 28 yards in 5 plays - half of which was on a penalty and the other half being a catch by Flynn.
I'm not sure we would've been much closer, if at all. As most teams did, Texas just toyed with us and sat on their lead in the 2nd half.
The penalty occurred when Texas was on their own 22.

I hate to say it but the 4th quarter wasn´t really worth televising... -

I don't consider beating an Iowa an upset.
But, in all seriousness, I do think upsetting Texas is more of a possibility than beating Iowa. I believe Iowa will be a lot better this year than they were last year, and that how the team does in that game will set the tone for the rest of the season. I expect struggles learning the system and such, but by the time the Longhorns roll around, it's reasonable to expect that Chizik and the coaches' presence could improve the team to the point where an upset might be possible.
Also, the team benefits from getting Texas a few weeks later in the season than they did last year, and they also benefit from having the game here in Ames.

Re: ESPN's Key Dates to Watch
When was the last time we had a truely HUGE upset? Iowa was #8 when we beat them in 05 but that team was also 7-5. We beat nebraska in 02 and 04 when they were pretty bad too. We really haven't had a "shock the country" upset in a while. 1992 against Nebraska is the only one that comes to mind.
We're due for a big upset and a lot of X-factors say Texas is ripe for the picking.

We're due for a big upset and a lot of X-factors say Texas is ripe for the picking. Other than kNebraska in '02 (which wasn't THAT huge), I think our biggest wins were against Iowa. I think the comeback win against Iowa in '02 was a huge upset in retrospect (being they lost to only us and USC that year), while our dismantling of Iowa in '05 was more of an immediate "take notice now" kind of upset that at the end of the season wasn't as great as it looked early on. I think the '02 Florida State game would even fall into this category - it looked great early in the season, but by late in the season FSU had one mediocre season.
I agree - we're ready for the A-bomb to drop and change things on the Big XII stage. Might as well be in Chizik's first year and against his former team.

Re: ESPN's Key Dates to Watch
It always feels like we have a chance to beat Texas. We always seem to play them tough even when we are a 21-point underdog. For the bettor...always take Iowa State and the points against Texas.
Often times it seems Texas just doesn't play hard, especially against teams they are heavily favored against. Texas gets every opposing team's best game too. They have superior talent to almost every team they play. It seems like they phone it in when they play a team they are suppose to crush. I was glad to see them win a national championship, but I never thought I would see the day it would happen.
