ESPN's Key Dates to Watch
ESPN - Schlabach: Key dates to watch for 2007 season - College Football
Lists many matchups throughout the season, ISU vs. Texas Oct. 13....only a few thoughts on the game
"Texas at Iowa State, Oct. 13
The Longhorns face former defensive coordinator Gene Chizik, now coach of the Cyclones. Iowa State quarterback Bret Meyer will try to light up the secondary Chizik left behind."
what do you guys think? Personally, I think it will be a great game to be at, sure to be tons of fans, lots of energy, without seeing this team play yet, i feel we may have a chance to make it an interesting day

Re: ESPN's Key Dates to Watch
I think we will get dominated, unless we can draw a cold day. I just can't see our defense keeping up with them, assuming Colt McCoy is healthy. I still think our best shot at glory is the OU game, but both should be a lot of fun.

Re: ESPN's Key Dates to Watch
I would hate to think what Colt McCoy would do against our defensive scheme last year.
I have more hope this year.

I have more hope this year. I can tell you exactly what he would do:
18-31 for 212 yds, 2 tds with 1 int
(stats from last years game)

(stats from last years game) Yeah but they played that game in crappy weather, and then once texas came back out, they just ran draw plays up the middle to stall. Kinda like ISU used to do, but usually ISU was losing when they tried that.

I think we have a better shot at UT than OU. OU is coming into this season with bitterness left over from Boise St.

If they can get to a BCS game without their starting QB or RB, I would hate to see what they can do this year with the returning experience. We hung with UT pretty damn well in the first half last year, and while on the road. If it wasn't for a lack of concentration that I believe was inherent with Mac's teams, and one of the most ridiculous, stab-me-in-the-heart interceptions I've ever witnessed, we still would have had a chance in that game.
If there was one upset game I would have to pick for next year for ISU, it would be at home versus Texas. The game is right after the Longhorns' game with OU, and it's naturally a big game with Chizik going against his former boss. It should be interesting, to say the least.
OU, if anything, should be considered a sure loss, if only because if we lose versus Texas, we certainly can't beat the Sooners. If we do beat Texas, the next game is a classic letdown game that inevitably happens to every great team making their way to the top.
If Chizik does manage to beat OU and Texas, though... well... Ames would cease to exist on the count of every ISU fan within the city limits spontaneously combusting on the spot. -

I think the real turning point was that B.S. late hit, unnecessary roughness, or roughing the QB (I forget which) that was called on us after we had closed the gap to 16-14 and just stuck Texas on a 3-out. It was pretty much over after that call Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? I would agree that we have a better chance against Texas than Oklahoma, but do you think we have a better shot at Texas than Iowa? I wouldn't go that far. I do like the idea of Chizik knowing how to attack the Longhorn offense, and if you're correct that we play them right after Oklahoma, that also makes things interesting.
I think that could either help us or hurt us. They could either be in a dog fight and use a lot of energy and be over confident if they beat them, or they could lose and be forced to get their concentration back and take out their frustration on us.
I'd rather play them the week before they have Oklahoma.

It was pretty much over after that call It wasn't a BS call, it was just a penalty on Rashawn Parker that was beyond ********. You're 100% right that the game was over after that call.

The score was 23-14 at that point and the half-time score was 30-14, instead of being 23-14 at worst without the silly penalty. ESPN.com - NCF - Boxscore -

No, but it would have made that game interesting for longer, plus maybe it would have had the 4th quarter televised since there was actually a game still.

Re: ESPN's Key Dates to Watch
Weren't they on the 15 yard line or something as well? I mean just a brutal lapse in judgment there.
I don't think we would have won either way, but that certainly was a game-changer.
