Better with age

OT: Your golf game.

What is everyone's abilities?
How often do you play a round?
What clubs do you use?
Anything else you wish to add.

I just got back from playing this morning and I am just looking for something to talk about until football season.
I usually play about 4 times a week on average. League one night sometimes sub on other nights, weekends, and for work about 20 times a year.
I shoot (18 holes) 78 to 90. (depending on the amount of aiming fluid I consume)
Clubs I use are Nike driver and irons and some off brand fairway woods. Not into hybrids yet and know I should be. Haven't thought I needed to with a 7 wood I hit from 175 to 180.
Tips I would give beginners. Keep head still, don't swing hard let the clubs do the work, work on the short game from 75 yards in before worring about the tee box, and most of all have fun.
Pet peeve, slow play.

Better to be hated for who you are, than beloved for who you're not.

Re: OT: Your golf game.

4 times a week? Holy schikeys, I play once at my company tourney for charity and maybe once at the CF outing. I used to play every sat and sunday but since we have 3 kids 3 and under, I just don't have time.

Plus I took up running a few years back, so that consumes what little free time I have.

I bought a set of really nice clubs when I graduated college, of course that was 10 years ago, but they are still pretty nice. They are taylor made with graphite shafts. I wish I could use them more.

I last played in 1984. I threw the clubs in frustration and never looked back.

My kids play about once a week now and seem to like it a lot.

Re: OT: Your golf game.

Used to play a lot more... but since college started it's down to 5-7 times a year... maybe I'll start playing more that I'm done with college.
A game that I can walk home satisfied with is 90.

Woods: Umm... Older stellshaft Slotline Dominators (they've got the smallest head size in the world) yet I hit them better than any graphite shafted large head club I've tried.

Irons: Armour 845s, had a really nice new oversized set I got for my birthday with nice crystal coating on the faces, but then when I stopped playing so much, I switched with my dad (he plays 2ce a week) and use his older 845s.

Favorite Club: Pitching Wedge - I'm better off chipping 20 feet from the fringe than putting from 15 feet. I'm not a bad putter either... I just have the bump and run down to an art (and I know I should use a 7 iron for the bump and run, but I use my wedge and have a really open stance)

Except the oldest is a twin, that would be insane with 2 kids running in opposite directions.

Re: OT: Your golf game.

good tips ChadM.

I play about 3-4 rounds a week, practice first thing at daylight twice a week and only have been 'into' the game for two complete seasons.

Cobra F Speed Driver.
Ping Zing Beryllium Copper Irons S-4, graphite shate; stiff flex
Mizuno 52, 56 & 60 degree toe and heeled milled head.
Calloway X 3W and 5W: Graphite Fujikura reg flex shaft
Odessey 2 ball putter.
Lots of Cyclone garb.. from covers to umbrella to bag... and much much more!!!

- Keep the left arm pit tight (so a piece of paper will not fall out).
- From right knee down: motionless.
- Back straight (more than you think and probably are doing).
- Grip, Grip, Grip. Figure that out and you make many things easier.

last year i finished as a 12 h andicap. This year, without as much practice, I am at a 21 handicap (which is where i started last year).

I love to play and love to practice. My strengths are 100-150 yards in and lag and line putting. My weaknesses is I tend to put too much into my tee shot and end up with a fade or even slice. When I slow down and focus on a 2/3 swing, i get out about 250 in the middle.

Can't wait for the CF.com outing....

- keep.

He did forget one big one, DO NOT LOOK FOR THE BEER CART WHEN SWINGING

on here stated what to do. follow those steps everytime, and you will not get any bad habits. Hell I practiced and I was hitting 175 on a pitching wedge. I just need to know how to use the clubs and what clubs to use when.

Re: OT: Your golf game.

I've gone three times this year. I'm not good - at all. I usually shoot in the low 50's on 9 holes. I have a set of Maltby component clubs that I got a few years back when I went to work at a country club for the summer (they were about all I could afford at the time). They were supposed to let us play every Monday and I got to play once all summer...grr... I just got a hybrid 5 iron that was an old demo club and I love it. I easily hit it straighter and farther than any of my irons. After I got that I took all the woods except my driver out of my bag because I can't hit them worth a crap.

Re: OT: Your golf game.

I try to play at least twice a week, I was much better while I was in college (mostly b/c I worked at a course and played everyday). Back in the day I shot in the mid 70's, now that I have to worry about a job and a mortgage - I am closer to 80-85 / round.

I hit:
Driver: Ping G2 (Although looking at the Callaway square head driver)
FairwayWood: Titleist PT (3) and Clevland Pro Launch (7)
Irons: Titleist 962B's
Wedges: Clevland 51 and 54 degree, Titleist Volkey 58 degree
Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2

Love to play when ever possible, but it seems to get harder and harder every year - friends move away or have kids.
