ESPN Chat w/ Joe Schad

Brad (Long Beach,CA): I would give new coach at Iowa State Gene Chizik a victory over former employer Texas in Ames this year

Joe Schad: (1:14 PM ET ) Nice thought, Brad. But an impossibility. Chizik knows he's in a tough spot talentwise and that's why he had no choice but to sign a ton of JUCO's ... which he didn't want to do... before this season. Good coach. But can he win more than 4-5 games in each of his first two seasons? Encouragement can be seen in the form of Kansas State which rose slightly in Ron Prince's first year.

Re: ESPN Chat w/ Joe Schad

It's a good thought, but I agree, it's mostly a pipe-dream for most ISU fans this season. I do think that Chizik would want to use this game to make the biggest impression that he can on the recruits that he wants to bring in next year. Whether our team can pull off the major upset or not, I think it could be a closer game than most people will ISU credit for.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

Re: ESPN Chat w/ Joe Schad

It's certainly not likely, but Texas does struggle in conference road games at least once a year. Lost at K-State last year with a lot on the table and KU came close to beating them in Lawrence in 2004. They would be coming off the OU game and may be ripe for a letdown. Not likely, but if the planets align correctly we might have a shot. No TOs and a solid kicking game would sure help us stay in the game. That has just killed us over the recent years. Hopefully we'll have a running back that can break some long runs and hold onto the ball.

Yeah, an impossbility just like the K-State game last year. There is a reason they play the games.
