Wrestling question

Can someone explain why we have only the 26th best recruiting class for this year?

DesMoinesRegister.com

I assume it has to do with the recruiting cycle, i.e., some years you don't recruit well due to needs or lack thereof.

I'm a passive wrestling follower so I was just curious.

I wondered the same thing, but I'm not too worried about it. It's all about what you do with the talent once it's on campus. I have no doubt in my mind that Cael will lead us to the promised land.

Re: Wrestling question

I don't know the first thing about wrestling or much about the team. But don't we have most of our guys returning next season? Could it be a case of not having much of a class to recruit?

Seems to me we were dominated with youth on the squad.

I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide

Re: Wrestling question

There was a lot of youth on last year's squad. A lot of guys wrestled above their seed. That's what we've needed in the past and it never happened.

This very well could be a case of filling in our needs.

Re: Wrestling question

Our team was very young....lots of RS Freshman and Sophomores, meaning new recuits would have to wait 2-3 years before cracking the line-up unless they are awesome.

Re: Wrestling question

It has a lot to do with needs and available scholarships. As has been stated, the team is very young with little scholarship money to hand out this year. It's not like football with multiple scholarships available every year. Nothing to worry about. Cael will be able to sign any recruit he wants more times than not. Some years other programs will take more and be rated higher, other years not.

Haven't the past few classes been in the top 2 or 3? I know that at least one was ranked #1 by a few people. It's going to be fun to watch the young guys continue to develop and start dominating.
