Yeah, I hate to sound pessimistic, but I think this means the staff will miss on some other kids that they had targeted. Hopefully it doesn't mean Gibbs.
Iverson has nothing to do with Gibbs. Iverson is a power forward/Center prospect. Gibbs is a point/shooting guard. I would not say we are settling on Iverson either. He is currently getting a lot of looks from a lot of big schools since competing with Memphis on the AAU circuit. He just could not get many looks being from N. Dakota. Iverson has talent and Gmac might be able to mold him. I would take Iverson. Sure I want Crittle,Marklof, or Zeller but sometimes you have to take the unknown and make him known.
Knownothing - Exactly, does Wesley Johnson ring a bell.....
Do we wait around only to find out that Crittle, Marklof, Zeller pick the UNC, Duke, Floridas and then we settle on a 1-star prospect out of Idaho???
I have all the confidence in our staffs evaluation capabilities - They had targeted Zeller long before any of the big boys came callin and long before he was the #5 prospect in the nation. They must get the feeling he's leaning another direction.
Besides, having had Iverson in camp, they may have seen something very similar to how Chiz saw Tuftee dominate in camp and suddenly he's the 10th best player in the state.
Gmac has the reputation of being able to make kids better, not all coaches have that, its the basis of true coaching. If Coach Gmac likes him, we will like him.
K
I guess I will take the opinion of our coaching staff and assume they are putting more legwork into it then a bunch of us spending 5 minutes trying to play armchair QB(or the equivalent of the BB term).
Maybe it's just me, but especially after spending time at the Capital City League games this Summer and seeing some of his recruits and walkons and the efforts he has put to land those and seeing we are in the top 2 of Gibbs decision, I will trust Gmac and not put a lot of clout in what I classify as a much too pessimistic fanbase we have even though at times I can maybe agree a little bit.
That's my 2 cents
Maybe Gmac isn't getting anywhere with Zeller or Marklof. So if he offers Iverson at our camp and then a week later Zeller wants to come he would have been screwed. So he waited probably to guage where everyone else was at then offered Iverson.Quote:
If Iverson dominated in our camp so much, why didn't we offer him then? What changed in 2 or 3 weeks? I'm not ripping the kid, and I have no doubt that McD will be successful here - but call a spade a spade.
Iverson didn't dominate at the camp. He has played well in AAU events since then, however.
Hey now, there is nothing wrong with players from Idaho!! What's wrong with picking up a few in-state recruits??

Umm...No
He plays for the South Dakota Heat, which is definitely based in SD. That comment was actually in response to knownothing saying he was from North Dakota. We hate that.
