I will admit that I originally was a Hawkeye fan. Amazing what an education and maturing can do to change you to the good side.
Give your background.

Since I was knee high to a grasshopper. My dad graduated from there and is a big fan so it was in my genetic code.

My dad went to Iowa State for three years after transferring from South Dakota, my parents and grandparents had season tickets from like 76-92, they gave them up after the Iowa State/Nebraska game in 1992 cuz they knew it wasn't gonna get much better, plus we had to drive from Lincoln to Ames just for a game. My mom grew up a Husker fan and I lived in Lincoln until 12, so I was split for awhile, then became more of a Cyclone fan when we moved to CR, and now I go to Iowa State and am a Sports Information Intern back in Lincoln, NE at Nebraska Wesleyan right now, lol.

My dad has always cheered for both the Hawks and the Clones, and when I was little the Hawks were always better, so I became and Iowa fan. Then, I got older and Iowa State started winning so I converted to a Cyclone. I don't think I really became passionate (which means getting on message boards like this) about Iowa State sports until the '04-'05 football seasons, but I had followed ISU football before that. The games against NU, Iowa, A&M, and Mizzou were games where I really started to feel like a true Iowa State fan, even if we lost. I didn't pay much attention to Cyclone basketball until last season(I never used to be a fan of basketball at all, but I am coming around)because I didn't like Wayne Morgan, but I do like Greg McDermott.

Actually followed the hawks as a child because of brother and father. Became a cyclone when I could think for myself and realized that I didn't like how they act and think. Not my kinda people.

I moved to Iowa in '99. Prior to that, I didn't know much about any team that wasn't in the BIG10. I was (still am to a certain point) a HUGE Michigan fan. I knew the big name schools from other conferences, but, in all honesty, I had no idea there was a team called the Iowa State Cyclones. I was ignorant. Anyway... a friend from work is a die-hard Cyclone and invited me to my first game back in 2000. It was a night game against Mizzou... the game that made us bowl eligible for the first time in 20+ years.
I went to the next couple of home games and have been a season ticket holder ever since. I LOVE our Cyclones!!! It took a season or two for me to put our Cyclones #1 in my heart and Michigan #2.
By the way... I am new to this message board. I'm liking it!!!

I was a big hawk fan until I went to school at Iowa State. I actually wanted to go to Iowa but as an engineering major, I put education over sports preferences.
I was one of those guys that said I'd go to Iowa State but still be a Hawk fan. I went to the first football game my freshman year (2000) and was hooked. I missed 1 football game in 4 years due to bad food poisoning and only a handful of basketball games.
My name is cycloneworld and I have a Cyclone obsession.

Grew up in Cedar Rapids, didn't really follow either the Hawkeyes or the Cyclones as a kid, so I was pretty impartial. However, about 10 years ago, my oldest brother went off to college - at Iowa State, so I kind of began following them by default. My dad would watch the games on TV so I'd end up watching with him, within a few years I was a huge fanatic. My love for ISU sports made my decision to attend Iowa State myself pretty easy (along with the good engineering school).
In an odd twist, my older brother - who first led me to becoming a Cyclone fan - now lives near Denver and is taking grad school courses at CU, so he now roots for them! Although he still does root for the Cyclones as well. I brought him along to McCarney's last game when he was visiting for Thanksgiving and he came and rushed the field with me - said in his years at school he never got the chance.

I think the poll should be modified to Before I Was a Cyclone I Was: Hawkeye, Panther, Knight, Other, Never Was Another.
