Wasn't he projected to be a PG prospect for us? Or was he going to be a SG. If he was a PG then I can understand why he would choose gonzaga over us, with buckley coming in next year

Tough to swallow no doubt.......but it'll be a little tougher for him to swallow in the next couple years when we're on ESPN more than he is!!!
Seriously though, if that's where he wants to go, more power to him.

He made his own decision, and for that I wish him well. I would have liked for him to come here, but he followed his heart. When he plays on Big Monday, I will be rooting for him.
This, like Bohannon last year, is more of an indictment of the quality of basketball that the state schools have been playing for the past several years than anything else. Hopefully, Mac can make us a power, so in years to come, we can get these kids that we are just missing on now. It takes time, even though I think that the program is headed in the right direction.

Plus there have been zero rave reviews this summer on Buckleys game. Buckley doesn't appear at the time to be the great pickup everybody thought he was going to be

Don't let your disappointment cloud what you think of Buckley. He was an emerging presence in Detroit last Winter, and I think that he has a very bright future here.
Losing Gibbs is a bummer. He has been built up to be pretty special, and I am sure that he will do fine out there. Winning, consistent winning, ensures that the next Grant Gibbs will come play for the good guys.
I hope that we don't just give out scholarships from here on out. Let's bank one, and show what this program is going to be. Then we can get one of these guys that we have been close on.
I remember Johnny talking about all of the guys he just missed on, Magic, Rice, Clark Kellogg, etc. He said you have to move on and be grateful for the ones that you do get (Phil Hubbard, Mike McGee, Jeff Grayer, etc). I am excited to see Brackins, Garrett, etc play. They will be the ones that determine whether or not we get these kids that we are just missing on. If they make Iowa State a power, we will be able to pick up the kids that will make all the difference.

The 8-10 guys already coming in the next two years means we're not going to be short on talent. Most of us already think we're going to make a run at the tourney this coming season, and that's mostly when these guys are inexperienced. From what we've heard about the Capital League, signs are positive some of these guys are going to be special. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when the gel as a team. I agree with Darts (how often does that happen?) I don't think we should just blow this scholarship on anybody. I think we need to wait a little bit and find out just exactly what else we need in '08 or down the road before we start offering it. And if McD has the season we're expecting him to have, I don't think we will be short on talented players that are wanting that scholarship.

I agree with this, while it's sad we missed on these guys - 2 days ago everybody was thrilled about the guys already on the team.
