Easy... they didn't pass the ball. The very well could have, and probablys should have. We would have bit... HARD. They ran the ball, pretty much at will. They beat us the old fashioned way.

Offensively, we had some playmakers over the years, but the conservative nature of the coaching staff (other than Loney), took a lot of momentum away over the years.
Agreed. Nothing is more deflating than to have two or three back-to-back 3rd and longs (8-15 yds) only to give each one up for a first down (rather easily I might add) and/or have a stupid penalty away from the play that gives the opposing offense a first down.

ISU has enough talent to line up and play with anyone but Texas and OU. And Texas will still let you play with them because many of their players don't get up for every game. See the Iowa game against Texas. If ISU's stupid safety named banks hits Chandler instead of flailing at the ball, ISU beats Iowa last year.

ISU has a problem with talent at safety and outside linebacker. Those positions last year were simply terrible. I'm not going to get in to how poorly I think ISU was coached, but it reminded my of Seneca's year after the loss to OU.
Did you watch the game?!!! We couldn't even move the ball and Nebraska stuffed it down our throat and the score could have been a lot worse if they had opened it up. A lot of you keep trying to say we were cheated out of that game but we got pasted. The fact the score was reasonably close is a mirage.

I was at the game. If Flynn's touchdown counts (Replay showed it was good.), the Huskers are on the ropes. You guys are dreaming if you think NU has some how regained elite level talent
I am not dreaming. The sad truth is Nebraska wasn't that good. They looked aweful that day and still pasted us. If Flynn scores they start throwing the ball and we would not have stopped it.

Completely agree. Iowa State fans and players being Iowa State fans and players we need some early confidence and a trashing of Kent State would be just what we need.

yup, you're dead on. No way should we be satisfied with a 14 or 17 point win....final score needs to be 52-0 or something.

It will only breed confidence with success to follow.

Followed by the complete dismantling of Northern Iowa to make up for the debacle that almost was last year

Attempt #3

Re: Speaking of Cameron Bell

When speaking of the running backs, we always get hyped about speed and power. The one thing that seems to derail hopes (other than injuries) is the question "can they pass block?" I keep hearing our coaches hate sacks, and have changed the offense to limit them. While that tells me lots of 3 step drops rather than 7, I also think that means that whichever RB is in the game better be able to block or they won't be in the game.

With all that said, what do we know about how these guys block? Any evidence from those that attended a practice?

Or "can they hold onto the ball once they get it?"

Re: Speaking of Cameron Bell

Problem is that JJ bass hasnt seen a real practice yet at ISU, Cameron Bell is big and the guy is almost like a fullback, thats another great thing. Scales, well we have seen him block before, he tries his best... But i remember asking JJ if he liked to pass block, and he just replyed with something like, i can do it all, so i left it there. I guess he has something to show us.

I would rather have an O-Line that can handle that and a RB that can CATCH the ball... I can't remember the last RB we had that could catch the ball... It would open the offense up a ton... Can you imagine a two back set with Bass going in motion to the slot? or a rb making a chip block, drifting to the flat wide open? Beleive it or not, having a RB who can catch the ball WILL slow down the pass rush too...

I hope we hear the same Bravodo after a few padded practices. It is easy to talk when you have not even put the pads on yet. JUCO practice, or games, is not the BIG 12. We
will see what he says after Ace lowers the boom on him or he has to block Tuba, Parker, or Lyle....
