It's a good commercial and if I had to be nit-picky about 1 thing is I think the "we are" line is overused these days. The "We are Marshall" is probably the first ones to use it and it's a big tradition there to chant that. Seems like everyone's been ripping it off lately since the movie I think.

It's not a big deal but that's the only flaw I see in that commericial is I hate the over-use of catchy lines like that when someone wasn't the first to use it. It's kind of like how Ohio State calls themselves The Ohio State University and some people have been kind of copying that lately too tacking on "the" in front of the school just because it sounds cool and different.

Marshall probably stole it from somebody else first since there's about 10 schools that claim it. No reason ISU can't have it to for a year.

Didn't Marshall use the "We Are Marshall" way back when the plane crashed? I think they had it from the get go.

I don't know for sure but according to this Marshall didn't start using it until 1988. I thought Marquette was using it at least back in the 70's when Al McGuire was there.

well we are iowa state. no doubt about it. not sure what else we can say there. we are the cyclones i guess. its not like its a lie WE ARE iowa state.

for what it's worth, I know Penn State chants this as well, and considering their stadium holds about three million people

perhaps Marshall, being a D-IAA program not far (relatively) from Pennsylvania, back in the day copied it from PSU? just speculating...

I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it really, just saying lot of people are using that "we are" thing now so it's not really a unique thing to do anymore. But this is kind of funny we are using this because I emailed Pollard last fall when they stopped doing the popular "jump around" between the 3rd and 4th quarters and his response was that he felt we were copying Wisconsin who does that. He also claimed the students didn't like it (I find that hard to believe since that whole student section was jumping to the song and know a lot of people that missed it) so they stopped doing it.

its possible, but marshall has been D1 since 1970..

I didnt like the jump around... it just doesnt work for football. IMO

The students liked Jump Around... for about the first chorus. Then they didn't jump anymore and just Stood Around. The same thing happens during the pregame techno.

The Herd’s 10 wins were the most ever by any first year Division 1-A team. Enroute to the 10 victories, the Herd won the first MAC championship game over Toledo, 34-14. With the win, Marshall advanced to the Ford Motor City Bowl, the school’s fi rst bowl game in 50 years, to play Mississippi. Sophomore wide receiver Randy Moss ended his record breaking career at Marshall as the school’s first ever Heisman Trophy finalist and Biletnikoff Award winner before being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings as the 21st overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft. Moss also broke the NCAA record for touchdown receptions in a season with 25. Moss finished his career with 55 touchdowns in only 28 games. Chad Pennington led the nation in touchdown passes with 39, which also set the NCAA record for touchdown passes thrown by a sophomore. The Herd’s center John Wade participated in the Senior Bowl All-Star game before being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Odd, i guess i havent heard of a team jumping in and out so much. but they were a D1 school back in the 70s
