Well, that's not good.
I don't know much about recruiting, but the idea of Mac coaching a kid who was 7'1" 255 sounded kind of cool. Should we be concerned?

With Mac having just one year at ISU (and a losing record), I'm amazed any high level recruits are even considering the program. I think it bodes well for the future! When Mac begins to win on a consistent basis and gets the team back into the NCAAs, we'll probably start landing more of these recruits (positive thoughts, positive thoughts).

My .02 is, although it would have been nice to have Gibbs and Markolf, it's not like we're hurting for talent at this point. We have an excellent recruiting class coming in this coming year and the makings of something special the year after. And all this after McD went 15-16 last year in his first season! Like Scott said above, just the fact that we're coming down to the wire with Gonzaga and Wisconsin one year into the McD era is positive signs of things to come. Just wait until the conference championships and Sweet Sixteen tourney seeds (hopefully #1 seeds) are coming our way...

I'm sad to miss on a local kid and Markolf - but in reality I'm not super bummed out. I feel like we're set at the PG position for a while. Markolf was a bigger loss in my opinion because we're going to have a gaping hole for a true center once Jiri is gone. The coaches had playing time to sell and it is disappointing to see us whiff on so many guys.
But, every program misses at times and it's not the end of the world. My only concern now is - who's left for 2008? I mean the staff better be bugging Colton Iverson, Davila, the "mystery Puerto Rican" from a few months ago, etc. We're looking at a class with zero top 150 players in all likelyhood.

When you've got 6 true frosh in the prior class it is hard to bring in top level guys. The best thing for the 08 class would be for a guy like Iverson to commit and then get a couple years to be developed.

I personally think this sucks. To be quite honest our 08 recruiting class is not going to be that good. Buckley seems pretty decent. Wes Eikmeir is an unkown and hopefully can be a good player. We have missed on our big targets. So hopefully Tyler Zeller will pull his head out of his Keister and come to ISU or we are going to end up with our two commits and Colton Iverson who could be good but who are we kidding. He is a project by all who have seen him play. I would rather bank 1 2008 schooly and try to get a big dog for 09. My personal opinion.

Uhhh... we haven't exactly signed Iverson yet. Frankly I'm praying he decides to come to ISU, I think it's important we get at least one big guy in the class. We'll see what happens in 2008, but it does seem to be a "swing and a miss" year.
Edit: LA Pomlee come on down?

It's nice to see some posters being realistic about why it's difficult for us to recruit after bringing in last year's class. But there is definitely something about recruiting and its attendant disappointments that brings out the Chicken Little in some guys.

I am not being negative about the staff and there recruiting. I am just disappointed as a Cyclone fan that we did not get either of the two. Also I did not mean Colton commited to us. I meant I hope he commits to us and then we would have a 3 man recruiting class and then bank the last scholly for some big fish in 09. Sorry I did not type that right.

Can we get Homan back - the last time we had a real center. Kiri is a power forward at best. Tuler will stay out west. Hope we have a gem somewhere to find.

We do have four guy's right now that can bang down low. Jiri, Brack, Vette, and Thompson. Now granted they are all pretty much power fowards but from what I understand Vette is the Wildcard. I hear he could be a pretty good center when Gmac get's a hold of him.

The guy grows another 3-4 inches and we get him on Ken Sheppard's "Gain 30 lbs of muscle yet drop 5% body fat" body building program and we're looking at a true center with a lot of talent.
