Ichiro's New Contract
So, do you think the Mariners are serious about keeping him around? LINK
Wow. Talk about benefits, huh? Green hills for thy throne, and for crown a golden melody/Ringing in the hearts of all who bring thee love and loyalty/Dear Alma Mater, make our spirits great True and valiant like the bells of I-O-WA STATE!

Re: Ichiro's New Contract
Crazy good ballplayer. I have to admit it would have been good to see him go somewhere that I could have watched him play more often. Not a lot of Seattle games on around here.

Re: Ichiro's New Contract
The crazy thing about Ichiro is that it is quite possible he break's Pete Rose's hit record even though he spent some of his best years in Japan... This guy is an amazing talent and if he gets close to that Rose record you can guarantee alot more Mariners games on TV.

He's almost 3,000 hits short of Rose, and he will be 34 when next season starts. Unless he's playing until he's as old as Julio Franco, I can't see it.

If you are going to count the hits from Japan he could do it, but not otherwise. It would take him another like 14 years hitting at his current rate to beat Rose.

The Braves just claimed him today.

Re: Ichiro's New Contract
Julio Franco made his major league debut on April 23, 1982. That means that his career is older than SEVEN players on the Braves roster (Saltalamacchia, McCann, Ascanino, Reyes, Davies, Francoeur). The man's a freak.

Re: Ichiro's New Contract
Back to the topic here with Ichiro getting deferred money. Is there a way to find out hwo prevalent it is with contracts in MLB?
I know that a big reason Magglio Ordonez turned down the White Sox offer was because the money was going to be deferred for about 20 years.

He explained his diet and workout routine a couple of years ago. He knows what he's doing.

44 ounce bat is one of heaviest in the league. He swings like a corkscrew unwinding. He's my man. JULIO. You go, J.
