1. This is a common way of making nicknames, especially among athletes. An example is former KC Chief Tony Richardson (T-Rich).

2. Because of the unfortunate connection between the word "high" from his name and its meaning with respect to drugs. The implication being that those who called him that were aware of or involved in his illegal activities. The Register is hinting at something bigger than this appears to be.

They probably happened across it in the press guide and thought it was funny or at least sensational. I don't really remember every drug dealer getting their nickname printed and I really doubt it would be if it were "T-Smith" or something like that.

As far as links to terrorism the most obvious is heroin since Afghanistan now provides 87% of the world's poppies for that purpose. The Taliban used to keep a tight lid on it but have turned to producing it to fund their war against the NATO forces there.

I don't really think that buying a dime bag from the guy down the street is funding al Qaeda though.
