This is nuts.
The funny thing is, is that this Iranian "Urban Legend" may have been started by their spying on US. In the US Military Intelligence community, the slang-word for "spy" and "intelligence officer" is "Secret Squirrel", and the CIA/NSA/DIS is often referred to as "The Secret Squirrel Society". I even know guys in intel jobs who have had unit emblems and stationary that incorporated the squirrel as their symbol.
I imagine some overzealous Iranian intelligence officer picked up on the slang, added 1 and 1 and got 3, and now, Iranians are convinced that there are sensor equipped squirrels roaming Iran, spying on them....
