I used to think that the world was in dire straights too, but then I picked up an old Farmers Almanac and do you know what I found?

Wars, floods, drought, economic woes, immigration problems... basically all the stuff thats still happening today, so in a twisted way it made me feel better because things are the status quo here on planet Earth.

I just think our society is getting more screwed up every day is the reason. With technology, the fast pace of life these days, and just general rebellion against how things were in the past and wanting something new all combined has just led to 1 messed up world anymore. All you have to do is turn on the TV anymore and compare it to say the 70's and 80's shows we loved growing up and most stuff aired today would never have made the airwaves back then. Maybe it's just because we don't care about good morals and values anymore and have come to accept/tolerate things. I don't know really... Hell I'm only 28 and what I just wrote almost makes me sound old and out of touch almost. I mean we have 10 year old kids running around with cell phones these days too. I don't have kids yet but I'm almost scared to think what things will be like when they are growing up. I might wind up being an unpopular parent but if it means my kids don't grow up stupid and wreckless and have some respect and good values I can live with that knowing they aren't completely screwed up.

According the the Maya calendars we're good for another 5 years or so December 20th 2012 we're screwed.

Technology is changing things yes. My 3 1/2 year old can surf the web now. He knows how to find noggin.com in his bookmarks, I doubt my grandparents could have ever done that.

How can you blame media for anything? It's people like Nancy Grace that our society needs to thank for helping us get through all of these hard times.

seriously, I remember once as a kid (probably about 1981) Dan Rather doing a report on what would happen if the Ruskies launched a nuclear warhead at Omaha (home of Strat. air command, called something else now I think) and they showed the map of the impact area (complete obliteration) and it scared the bejeezus outta me (probably not the best thing to watch for an 8 yr old at the time...) It seemed tensions during the cold war were pretty high at times and end times perhaps seemed near then...
