Short Vacation to WI - any suggestions?
We took the kids on a major Spring Break excursion so the week-long Summer vacation is going to be low-key. Here's the rough itinerary; anybody have any suggestions for "can't miss" attractions along the way?
Saturday - Effigy Mounds, Pike's Peak, etc. - overnight in Prairie du Chien
Sunday & Monday - Mount Olympus in Wisconsin Dells
Tuesday & Wednesday - Packer Training Camp - overnight(s) in Green Bay
Thursday - 1:05PM Brewer game in Milwaukee (overnight in Milwaukee)
Friday - Milwaukee sight-seeing (overnight in Madison?)
Saturday - Madison sight-seeing (overnight in Sping Green?)
Sunday - House on the Rock? - drive home
The kids are 13, 12 & 10. While I'd be happy for suggestions on things to do anywhere, I'm particularly interested in items of interest for Milwaukee and Madison. Anybody?

I honestly would skip house on the rock. I thought it was overpriced and run down.
Re: Short Vacation to WI - any suggestions?
We've gone to Mount Olympus in Wisconsin, it is a good time, unfortunately they cut down some of their Go-Kart rides a couple years ago.

You should stop at Noah's Ark outdoor water park while you are in the Wisconsin Dells. Minature golf at Pirate's Cove is fun too.
While you are in Green Bay you might want to take a trip to Door County. Stop by a restaurant later in the day for a 'fish boil'. Good stuff. Visit the parks and beaches.

Mt Olympus is great i was there last summer and could have stayed there all week!!!!
Re: Short Vacation to WI - any suggestions?
I liked the Dells alot. Wonder if they still have the deer park.

I would suggest River Falls to see Chiefs training camp rather than heading to Green Bay for Tuesday-Wednesday!:biggrin9gp:

Madison: Check out State Street aka The Pedestrian Mall, there are 5 or 6 art galleries/museums in downtown , the free Henry Villas Zoo, If your kids like trains head out North Freedom for the Railway Museum. I guess you could check out the campus, but your kids may get wrong ideas about it and end up liking the Badgers and we wouldn't want that, would we. Madison is a nice town, you'll be able to find plenty of things to fill your day with.
Milwaukee: Discovery World, The Public Market, museums etc. I believe the Marquette interchange is still torn up so avoid that area, unless it's now open then never mind.

I'll second that. Or just wait see both teams in the "Old Timers" game in Kansas City on November 4th. I'm afraid this season could be rough, fellow Chiefs fans...
How about picking up a trunkload of cheese curds for all your friends at Cyclone Fanatic? :yes4lo:

That's all part of my master plan! I want the kids to eventually go to schools that are far enough away they won't come home every weekend, but close enough to come home when they need to. At three hours, Madison fits that bill. My plan calls for:
1) 13 Y/O son follows dad to ISU and gets the legacy thing out of the way;
2) 12 Y/O daughter attends UW-M, with OOS tuition paid by "Uncle Schriner";
3) Dad has enough money left to send 10 Y/O son to Luther or St. Olaf!
I really wouldn't mind if they all followed dad to ISU; we just don't want them following mom to Winona State! And hopefully none of them will take seven years to get thru school like Uncle Schriner! That should elicit a response from "the lurker"!

Comments like that certainly don't help your case for OOS funding!
One can only assume the children are being punished by having to attend Packers training camp. Why don't you just dress them in hawk gear while you're at it?

With the way OOS tuition is rising up here, you may have to send your youngest son to community college unless "The Uncle" foots your daughter's tuition.
If it was me, I'd send my daughter to ISU and my son to UW just for the peace of mind of knowing ISU is a tad more laid back and secure. I mean, ISU only riots every decade or so, UW does it almost every Halloween on the pedestrian mall that I told you to goto.:baffled5wh:
