UNI

I know its not the first game on the schedule, but I was thinking of the UNI game and as hard as it is for me to believe, this game kind of scares me. They played better then us last year, they do not fear us, they will be motivated from the win they could have had, and they return 17 starters. Their offense appears to be expierenced and talented against are who knows defense. We SHOULD win this game by no less then 2 touchdowns in my mind, but after last year who knows.

LOSING TO NORTHERN IOWA....Is not the way a new coach (Gene Chizik) wants to start out at Iowa State.

I think ISU will beat the panthers by three touchdowns!!

Re: UNI

Last year's game will be on the minds of our returners also.

Plus we have a new coaching staff with something to prove that will have a completely different approach to each game.

I have a feeling the UNI QB will not fair as well as he did against us last year.

Re: UNI

You have good reason to be concerned. I-AA schools are upsetting D-1 schools with more and more frequency these days.

UNI's biggest area's of concern going into this season are its secondary and replacing their outstanding kicker. Hopefully, we'll really exploit their inexperienced secondary.

I still think we'll win the game. I've got a feeling you're going to see a Cyclone team that is faster and more physical than you've seen in a long, long time! I can't wait for the season to begin!

You're right that they don't fear us. I know of a particular player on that team (who probably won't play this year) that thinks they're going to kill us.

Oh, well that settles it then. If a UNI player is convinced they're going to "kill" us, then I suppose it's the end of the road for our guys. There's no way they can go up against that level of ferocity.

I'm hoping you didn't interpret my post as if I also believe we're going to lose to UNI. I think the guy is an idiot and was at a loss of words.

Re: UNI

I have to think that Pollard will do away with the UNI series very soon. Seriously, why do we continue to play them? There is absolutely nothing to gain on ISU's part.

In the past, this game was a guaranteed payday for us. Now, with season ticket sales on the rise and looking to the future, it makes sense to dump UNI for a team from a lower level conference.

Except last year's game drew a JTS record crowd over 55,000. This was in addition to selling a record amount of season tickets prior to last season.

Why not play this game? It's good for the fans of both teams. If we win, it counts towards our bowl eligibility each year, unlike year's past.

Re: UNI

UNI is a must on the schedule if you care about revenue. It will always be a packed house.. and that makes, no guarantees, two home games each year stuffed full of fans.

Please don't take the UofI approach, why do we schedule them we have nothing to gain and everything to loose.

I have changed my stance on this... since my midnight thoughts of last years game.

Let's beat them every/any time we can and do it by 5-6 TD's. Make UNI scholarships players want to walk on to ISU.

- keep.

Re: UNI

I agree, I think we should play UNI every year. We've had huge attendance the last few times playing them, I don't see a downside to it at all. If we lose to them, it's not UNI's fault, it's ISU's fault for being that bad.

Check out "Bama" Bob's 7/24 blog entry (half way down the page). He suggests that UNI should go off the schedule permanently...

Re: UNI

This is awesome! On no Cyclone message boards have I ever seen UNI football players that ride the bench and get no PT get quoted! Go hassle Drake fans Panthers!!!

And as crummy as this one felt, Cyclone fans, it could be a lot worse. You could be a Hawkeye. - Sean Keeler (imagine that, actually quoting Keeler!)

Re: UNI

I'm in favor of playing UNI, as long as teams stay on the 12 game schedules. With 4 non-conference games you want atleast a couple easy wins and if you can "pack the Jack" in the process, we all win. I realize we've had 2 close calls with the Panthers lately, but I find it hard to believe Chizik will ever lose to UNI.

Re: UNI

We're already going to be taking a couple years off from UNI. After this year, we skip them for the next two years, then play again in 2010. They're currently on the schedule for '10, '11, '13, and '15, with a season-opener TBA in '14.
