Baseball trivia question

I was able to get 6 of the 7... how well can you do?

There are seven ways a baseball player can legally reach first base without getting a hit. Taking a base on balls -a walk- is one way. Name the other six.

Here are the ones I can think of: Hit by pitch, catcher interference, wild pitch on the 3rd strike, fielder's choice, error.

It's not "passed ball," it should be "reach on error"

Wouldn't an error be considered reaching base without recording a hit too?

I believe that catcher's interference would be something along the the lines of their mitt getting in the way of a batter's swing.

Pinch runner? I don't know if I'd count that as "reaching" first base. Great question though.

Passed ball maybe, but a Wild Pitch is not an error, so that would count as one answer.

My point is you can't reach first on a passed ball or wild pitch unless it's strike 3 or ball 4. I'm thinking that what was meant by "passed ball" was a wild throw to first base, which would be an error, not a passed ball.

I agree with CloneFan. That's pretty iffy (and also the one I couldn't get)

I think they tried to cover themselves by saying "...a baseball player can legally..." instead of "...a batter can legally..."

I'm not sure I buy it, though. I guess it depends of what your definition of "reach" is.
