Obviously I am saying that I have a least 1 of every brand rookie card for Mr. Bonds (Topps, Fleer, Donruss, Topps Traded, etc. etc. etc.) It really is ridiculously how many different "rookie" cards there are for players these days. When I grew up there were 2, maybe 3....now there are between 15-50 depending on the player.
If memory serves me for Mr. Bonds there are about 15 or so different cards that could be classified as rookies for 86-87. The 1986 Topps Traded Tiffany is the high dollar one. It was at $400 last I checked.

(Also, we had only 4 channels on the TV and had to dial our telephones.)

Topps ruled the roost for awhile and then Donruss and Fleer got in the game in the early 80s. They were the big 3 until it got out of hand around 1987. Heck...even Bowman is back in the game after pulling a disappearing act after about 1955.

Re: Barry Bonds
By the way...what is everyone's opinion on the greatest BBall record. Did you really think it was the HR record? I didn't....I really think the 56 game hitting streak by Joe Dimaggio is the most impressive. No one has even come close to that and I don't believe anyone ever will. I do think someone will hit .400 again, but that consecutive game hitting streak is one tough booger to break IMO.

Cal's record doesn't suck...and he's one helluva classy guy (as far as we know).

Cal's record is amazing, but the one thing I don't like about it is that it takes away from what a great player Cal Ripken was. Everytime Cal's name is mentioned the first thing that gets talked about is the streak. But Cal revolutionized the shortstop position. Before Ripken shortstops were mostly scrawny slap hitters. Cal was the first real slugging gold-glove shortstop.

Re: Barry Bonds
I think most everyone will agree that bonds did juice with or without the proof. However, I recall hearing that at one point in time around 70% of all baseball players were juicing. Does it make it right? Absolutely not, but we shouldn't completely put blinders on and make Barry our scapegoat.
Bonds does have the record but I don't believe he will make the HOF, which he would of if he would not have juiced at all (which is a little ironic), and at the end of the day this will be his penalty. Personally I would take the Hall over a record any day. Does anyone think Mcgwire will make the Hall?

This is equal to the suspension Joe Niekro received for having an emory board in his pocket which he alegedly used to doctor the ball. Both are cheating, and considered to be equal in the eyes of MLB. There isn't an nfl rule against dog-fighting either ...

Re: Barry Bonds
I think Topps could do set of card by year and hat size. Growing three hat sizes in your late 30s is the one stat that I can't believe he will ever convince people is unrelated to the juice.

Re: Barry Bonds
I think the most damning thing about Bonds, was how he became "injured" immediately after steroids became illegal and testing went into effect, (and therefore unavailable for drug testing) for precisely the amount of time it takes for steroids to wash out of his system.
The problem isn't Bonds, it's baseball, and the "All-Star Wrestling" phoney bullsh*t it has become. MLB - Who cares anymore?

I miss the days when the ball players' most "enhancing" drug was booze and tobacco.
