Yes... it's a bitter rivalry... Kent is where elitist snobs send their kids to be docs and lawyers and Kent St. produces engineers, vets, and scientists....
whoa! these new emotions are a trip....
Using "State" Behind it just means it's a public university (or college).
EIU used to be known as the "State University of Iowa" (SUI) and UNI used to be known as Iowa State Teachers College.
There are several more examples of "blank" state all though the only ones I can think of right now are Emporia State and Long Beach State.
Kent State was named after Kent Brockman
My favorite Kent Brockman quote
"This just in...go to hell!"
Buffalo and Stony Brook (Long Island) are actually State University of New York at Buffalo and at Stony Brook, or for short, SUNY Buffalo and SUNY New York.
Syracuse is a private institution, so it doesn't have the SUNY moniker. It's just Syracuse University.
I guess its like us. We're Iowa State, and as far as I know there is no "Iowa". In the state we've got Iowa State, UNI, Drake, and EIU....but no Iowa. Weird.
All this "_____ State" discussion begs the question...
Is there a Gonzage State and where is it located? :biglaugh:
Are there more "state" colleges named after real states? or more after fake one?s?
is it Friday or what? somebody fill in all the blanks and I give you a beer and a cookie
Just a little more Kent Golden Flashes information (I think I am going to call them Kent from now on out of protest that there should be a "Kent U" before there is a Kent State).
Imagine a flash by these lovely ladies

If Division I (basketball) is counted, the "real" states win by a score of 37-29.
Look me up in the grass lot on Thursday the 30th ... I probably won't have the cookie, but how bout a beer and ... another beer?
