Never thought I'd ever say I regret trading Tim Dwight, former Sqwak to San Diego for the upgrade to #1 draft pick in order to guarantee Vick. Wasn't Brees drafted in the same draft? Must say I'd rather have Brees behind center now, considering it's more and more likely each day that passes that Vick will never take another snap in a Falcons jersey ever again. My wife and I wish we could go back and have our engagement pics from a year and a half ago retaken so we're not wearing our Vick jerseys in them...
Not that I want to rub salt in the wounds, but I've been a Chargers fan for a long time and I was ecstatic in that draft when San Diego traded down and ended up with LaDanien Tomlinson, Drew Brees, and (painfully, although he was a nice add) Dwight.
I knew about Vick quite a bit in college and I was one of the few who wasn't enamored with him and was hoping San Diego would get a great trade (after the Leaf fiasco) for him. It worked out better than I could have dreamed of! The Vick trade single handedly brought the Chargers back, just like the infamous Herschel Walker trade!! As you can tell, it still makes me happy!
Transcripts between judge Henry Hudson and co-conspirator Peace:
"The 'Bad Newz Kennels' operation and gambling monies were almost exclusively funded by Vick"
A written signed statement which is part of co-conspirator Phillips plea agreement reads:
"Phillips agrees and stipulates that these dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts of Peace, Phillips and Vick"
The dog gambling accusations against Vick could trigger a lifetime NFL ban. Plea agreement or not it appears that Vick will be seeing some prison time. What other athete with this amount of potential has gotten into this degree of trouble?
Watching SportsCenter last night, I think it depends on the likeliness that the judge upholds the terms of the deal as to whether Vick pleas or not. ESPN reported that the dude judging this case has a reputation for being a stiff penalizer and, if he doesn't think the plea deal is severe enough, can and will change it. If he's guaranteed only 1-2 years in prison, I think he deals. If there's a good chance that the judge changes the terms to 5-7 years, Vick may want to go to trial. It also depends on the kind of career he'll have after all is said and done. 1-2 years behind bars, he could still play at SOME level (CFL, AFL, etc). 5-7 years and his career's done.
