Preferred Helmet Color
Based on Stormin's suggestion on starting up a poll from another thread, here's the question:
Based on the uniforms that will be used starting the next season, which helmet color should be used to compliment those uniforms - cardinal, gold, or white? Logo isn't an issue on this as it appears that has already been determined. This is based solely on what would look best with the new uniforms.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -
Re: Preferred Helmet Color
I have grown on the white helmets. New era new color.

Re: Preferred Helmet Color
I really, really would like to see gold, with the same logo, maybe slightly smaller. -
Re: Preferred Helmet Color
I like the white, I am just opposed to the three proposed "logos" on the helmets. I say go with the current logo on white....

Re: Preferred Helmet Color
I thought I'd try to see what the proposed uni's would look like with gold helmets. (The logo would have to be altered because of the gold type)
And no, I'm not going to bother sending this to Jamie, because I'm convinced he won't change his mind... -
Re: Preferred Helmet Color
I think the white helmets would look nice but why not just put our current ISU logo on it instead? If I had to pick 1 of the 3 I'd go with the I State one but I don't see the point of going away from our current Cyclone logo.

Re: Preferred Helmet Color
The I-State logo looks a TON better on a gold helmet than on a white one, and I could actually live with the I-State logo in this case. I'll have to play with the ISU variety...

Re: Preferred Helmet Color
Thanks Nedrick... that actually changed my mind about the white helmets. I think they look ok with the Home Unis' and great with the aways while the gold would look great with the home, but awkward with the away uni. On top of it, I-State is the logo for the helmets, there's no other color than White that it will show up decent on.

Re: Preferred Helmet Color
I'm guessing the reason they went with White helmets is that the "gold" is not a true "gold" and having the helmets this color would be too much. (dare I say ketchup and mustard?) Plus the home uniforms with gold helmets look pretty similar to what we had in the early 90s so want to break from that. Also you can make out the logo better on white helmets. (as noted above...)
I kinda like the gold helmet though......

Re: Preferred Helmet Color
Here's Jamie's response to my email: "I appreciate your taking the time to follow-up. As you can imagine, this is clearly a subject of very subjective opinion. Almost every person I speak with has their own personal views. As for Coach Chizik - the white helmet was not even his idea so those that assume it is because he was at Texas or Auburn are making a incorrect assumption.
The reason we decided on the white helmet is we believe it more clearly identifies whatever we put on our helmet. We looked at schools that had two colors with one of them not being white (Auburn, Arizona, Oklahoma State, Maryland, etc.,) and really liked how they made their mark or name very distinguished by putting in on a white helmet. Given that we are trying to recreate our identity with this change and we believe this is the most dramatic way to do it.
One of our biggest challenges nationally is no one knows who we are or what we want to be called. We go by ISU, Iowa State and Cyclones. Our current helmets say ISU but than we have a redbird on the helmet (or most people think we do). I would be a rich person if I had a $1 for every time I am out of state wearing our current design only to have people ask me if I am with the Illinois State University Redbirds since our design says ISU and it has a redbird on it.
Thanks again for sharing your feedback. The process has been enjoyable and we look forward to making a decision and than going with it."
Glad he spelled out the reasoning for their decision...
