No, this isn't a posting about the hawks switching conferences.
I am traveling on business and I was grabbing a bite to eat while at Houston Hobby Airport. There is a burger place there called Pappas Burger. Along one wall near the bar are the helmets of the Big XII conference. However, instead of a Cyclones helmet, they have a hawkeye helmet. I asked the girl working why they have an Iowa helmet and she said "we have lots of helmets. I don't know...hehehe". Has anyone else been to this place? I am assuming they think the hawkeyes are in the BigXII conference. I took a picture using my phone but it didn't turn out.

It means it doesn't matter what helmet we go with - people are still going to be idiots.

That just sucks....at least they've got it right at Buffalo Wild Wings in Rogers, Arkansas where you can find an ISU pennant hanging with the rest of the Big XII.
I've been keeping an eye on ebay for tickets to ISU/OK and saw four listings for Kansas Jayhawks vs. Iowa State Hawkeyes. Gee, he has zero bids...go figure. | | |

I went to their home page and couldn't find an e-mail address, but did find a phone number. Hours are from 8-5 M-F, but they do have 24hr. voice mail. I called and let them know about their idiotic mistake, don't know if it'll do any good.

I'll try and stop by sometime and straighten that mess out.
If it's not ConUSA they have no clue in this town...... well except for the boat load of A&M fans that are all over the place.

There is nothing more frustrating than this, and I think it is just more proof that we all need to get behind Pollard's plan to grow our programs. I am amazed at how poorly known we are outside the state.
Living in Kansas City surrounded by KSU, KU, and Mizzou fans, I am amazed at how many times I have told people I went to ISU and I get something like, oh, the Hawkeyes. We are one state away and have been in conference with these teams for how long now? I have had similar experiences in Nebraska. It truly is disappointing.

Once you go south of the IA / Missouri border, it is amazing how stupid people become.

You must've encountered a lot of dumb people down there, then. I know a lot of people who know about ISU outside of the state, including my grandpa, a KSU alumni. His college football world is all about Alabama and Auburn now, but even someone of his age can distinguish the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones.
To a point, yeah, I think we're a lot less "famous" than our rival to the east, but I feel like assuming that no one knows about ISU just reinforces a paranoid stereotype that harms our image as a fanbase rather than strengthening it.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success. This is Cyclone Football.

I think you're right AirWalke. Who cares about some airport in Texas? I mean it's a stupid mistake. We've got this little inferiority complex at ISU that doesn't need to be there. The only thing that matters to me are other Iowa State fans. There is no doubt that Iowa State fans are among the most dedicated in all the land. Even ESPN noted it in their college rankings they did for Div. 1-A.
Iowa State fans have been living in sports purgatory for a long time, and some might say we're more obscure. Sure we're not as well known as the Hawks, but I still feel we have better fans than they do. ISU fans are no doubt right up there with every other school in Division 1. Dedicated, mostly knowledgeable fans that bleed cardinal and gold. That's all I care about.
