Re: ISU lineup shaping up
You know what is funny though... of all the JUCO o-lineman we brought in, only Dedrick is starting. From my new homer viewpoint, that shows me that the talent wasn't as bad as I maybe thought it was.
LT: Dedrick
LG: Schmeling
C: Brandon Johnson
RG: Stephens
RT: Lamaak
TE: Barkema
WR: Blythe
WR: Sumrall
WR: Moses?
QB: Meyer
RB: Scales
The only thing they don't mention is who the 3rd WR or FB could be. One thing I do have a question on though - how good is this Brandon Johnson dude at C? I have never heard of the guy before spring practice.

They are probably letting Scales start to give him a chance to show what he can do when healthy. They will both get ample opportunities to shine.

Yeah, nice catch. Either the author of the article typed Robinson when he should have typed Harris - or he's not the #3 guy.
I won't read anything into it yet, the Rag is know for their errors.

Re: ISU lineup shaping up
My takeaway is Harris needs a new position.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: ISU lineup shaping up
I agree - I think we will see plenty of Scales and Bass. Having two competent backs share the load, and stay fresh, should help the running game in the 4th Qtr.

Re: ISU lineup shaping up
From an offensive perspective, I think we already had the talent. I don't think our offensive coordinator last year had it together; might have been a little in over his head. I don't think he knew the schemes and the plays to call to win games at the Division I level.

Re: ISU lineup shaping up
I did notice the mention of Alex. Robinson and i'm excited, in all the scrimmages and practices, his name continually resurfaced - i think he's a huge reason why Bell may be moved to LB. Again, i wouldn't mind seeing Bell have a dual role, LB and short yardage RB.
Regarding Scales and Bass, the big factor here was scales being around the system and getting all that time to get the system digested before practice where as Bass is learning on the fly. My prediction - by the Iowa game those two will be flipped.
O-line i knew this area would be full of surprises....
I thought Baysinger looked the part to start as a true freshman - i picture this guy being an all big 12 caliber tackle - prototype size and with coaching, watch out.
Thought Alvarez/ Blaes and Klerekoper would challenge for starts.
Lamaak beating out tibbs is the topper.
The thing to look at, if this group can play and play well, instead of it being our weakness this year, it could end up being our strength next year - all underclassmen.
Go Mac - as in Mcfarland - coach the boyz and grow the talent to where the stud lineman want to come here and it makes his job a lil easier...
Go Clones.......

Couple the poor line play with the oh-so-predictable play calling, I prefer to chalk it up to coaching rather than lack of talent. Hopefully the current staff has brought down the thunder on those guys and they responded. We shall see...
