It's a turboprop plane, functionally equivalent to the US B-52, except that the Rusky planes are 20-25 years newer than the B-52's. The Russians also have a high-tech bomber, but you don't go parading those around when saber-rattling, because the high-tech bombers are expensive to operate. The older bombers not so much.
Russia has oil (i.e. lots of money). I doubt that the US can outspend them this time, given our enormous debt. The cold war is on its way back. Should prove interesting...

Did you also see that Putin is trying to claim the North Pole as Russian property? I guess he may have finally found some land whose inhabitants couldn't kick the Russian Army's collective *sses with sharpened sticks and rocks.

Given the history the Russian submarine forces, it is probably more newsworthy to note that the sub was able to resurface without international help after planting the flag.
