The logo talk is interesting in that I believe the Athletic Department is trying to establish a logo for our national idenity. Are we:
In my book, we are known as Iowa State on a national basis. The same as Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Penn State etc. We will never be ISU, our ID is already Iowa State. LSU, USC, UCLA have established their letters, but not Iowa State. So in my view, the I-State logo will be used to identify us as "Iowa State" in a concise way, and to separate us from "Iowa." I'm sure research was done by Iowa State, and I believe the new logo came from that research.
"Cyclones" is the best thing we have going for us. But in order to establish a national identity, we need to seek out all the high profile games that we can get, especially in football and men's and women's basketball. The Florida St. game a couple years ago was a perfect example of what will build a brand. I guarantee that game opened a lot of eyes on a national level, not only with fans, but recruits. Go anywhere and play anyone........meaning play the big boys. Get our basketball programs in the high profile tournaments. Shuck one of our sisters of the poor non-conference opponents in football for a Miami, LSU, UCLA......whoever will take us. If it's a one and done away game, so be it. This will build the Cyclones brand on a national level.
