Volleyball falls to Middle Tennessee in 4 gamesJu

I just got back from the volleyball opener against Middle Tennessee State. We lost in 4 games, taking Game 2. Game 1 wasn't very close (except for a 21-25 moment), and Game 3 was better. We had TONS of momentum during most of Game 4, but they were able to chip away at any leads we built. We lost Game 4 30-28.

Initially, I was disappointed that we were losing to a school like that, but it became apparent pretty quickly that Middle Tennessee is a damn good team. They had one gal in particular (Ashley Mead, I think) that had a gravity-defying spike-prep jump. She arched so far backward that her arm literally almost touched her feet, and would invariably send the ball rocketing right into the corner of the court. It was pretty impressive. Our girls started out not too well, but improved noticeably as the match went on.

It sucked to lose, but volleyball games are still a TON of fun. I maintain that VB matches and gymnastics meets have at least as much "fun factor" in them as a football game does, if not more. There's no sitting on your hands for 90 seconds in between every play. Everyone in Ames (or maybe even Ankeny) should try to make it to the next match: against Creighton, 6:30pm on Tuesday. After that, there's no more home games until September 15.

Also of note: when I walked in, "Thunderstruck" was playing over the sound system at maximum volume... A preview, perhaps?

Added bonus: Coach Johnson liked the noise that Flag Guy, Superfan and I were making so well that she sent an assistant over to let us know that the courtside chairs would be held for us at games in the future!

MTS was an NCAA team last year.

I don't mind going to volleyball games every once in awhile. It may not have the excitement of football and basketball, but the action is non-stop. Plus it doesn't cost much.

I loved vball games when I was in school. They are a ton of fun and as an added bonus, those girls look real nice in the shorty shorts.

We should change UNI or Wartburg or Marshalltown into "Middle Iowa State"

Why does Tennessee get to have a middle one?

We would always sit in the first couple rows on the side the setter would turn away from. Of course in about 94-96 ISU had the most smoking hot setter....But that was not the reason we went... really it wasn't.
