What are we looking for Thursday?

OK, new season, new players, new attitude, new staff.... Excitements and optimism is high. I'm curious what you guys are looking for Thursday night as indicators about where we stand in terms of progress, improvement, etc.

Things I'd like to see:

1. Aggressive but intelligent playcalling. Play to win....not to not lose.
2. DBs up in somebody's grill. Give me a 10 yard cushion and I'll take it everytime. That needs to go away.
3. Better game management overall. Clock, down, situation, etc.

Re: What are we looking for Thursday?

A WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then to see aggressive play calling, SPEED, and let the ball fly through the air (mostly towards #1)!!!!

What about putting Todd Blythe in a different number jersey, it make take the opposition a quarter or two to figure the switch. By that time he might have 2 or 3 TD's

Re: What are we looking for Thursday?

I would like to see the Clones win, and possibly not get hurt. I would also like to see Rashawn Parker put some poor Kent State fool in a figure four leg lock! Sorry, inside joke there.

Re: What are we looking for Thursday?

I'd like to see a solid team effort, fundamentally disciplined, and a team that leaves it all on the field.

The number 1 thing I want to see is a W.

Did anyone hear Marty say the other day to John Walters that he thinks Chizik would rather lose and play hard than to win and play sloppy?? I think that's totally wrong. I think Chizik desperately wants a win to start the new era and he will take any kind of W he can get this season.

Re: What are we looking for Thursday?

I hate to say it but the thing this team really needs to do is win, and do in a someone convincing manner. All 4 wins last year were barely wins. I realize that the Clones are not going to win 7 or 8 games this year, (Unless GC is the best coach in the country) but there are several teams on the schedule that look way better than Kent State, and if you are going to win a few games this year, this is one that you have to get. I am not at all worried about not being aggressive on defense or a bland offense, It is the execusion that is the main concern.

Couldn't agree more. We're not going to blow Kent State out of the water. You don't just implement a new system with new coaches and a bunch of new players and magically start destroying opponents (unless of course you have USC-like talent). I expect some really good things, some really bad things and everything in between.

Re: What are we looking for Thursday?

I am looking for a large and loud crowd that does not let up until the final horn, no matter what the score. It is the only thing we have control of on Thursday.

I am hopeful that we see aggressive play on both sides of the ball, a good enough running game to open up the pass, and offensive and defensive line play that will surprise us all.

It would make my day if we laid a smackdown for once but I'll be happy to just get away with a win.

ISU is a member of one of the premier college football conferences in the country. Kent State is not. I expect the team to distinguish itself accordingly.

Re: What are we looking for Thursday?

I think nothing will speak volumes and build confidence more than a solid win on Thursday. I think it'll be easier to build upon a solid, well-played performance in the following weeks.

Re: What are we looking for Thursday?

What else am I looking for?

Mediacom getting off of their "old gold and black" throne and taking advantage of the naming of the game the "Mediacom Classic" by broadcasting the game on their Connections channel for those of us unable to make it to the game!

And I just checked the radio coverage online - it appears that the Cyclone Radio Network no longer has coverage in the Quad City area - that just pisses me off. You mean to tell me there's not a single station in the area that isn't willing to pick up a couple of Cyclone Football games???
