I tend to think that this is over stated. I doubt that if I polled 100 people 20 of them wouldn't be able to pick the US on a map.

I highly doubt this is overstated when it's been polled that 5 out of 10 people in America can't find New York City on a map, 8 out of 10 people say that ISU stands for Illinois St, and 9 out of 10 people, when you tell them that you graduated from Iowa State, reply, "Oh, so you're a Hawkeye then..."

I doubt that 5/10 thing either. Depends on who you poll. Sure in my house 2 people could, and 3 people couldn't but they would probably try and either mark the map up with crayons or eat the map.

Exactly. Add in the millions of US Americans who are 6 years old or younger, then maybe.
