my comment of OL under perfoming may actually have said " not as dominant as expected" from Mac interview on WHO approx 8/14.
Did said seniors were being pushed which is good.
Had to look that up from another source.
Thanks

Thanks Thanks for the clarification.
That could mean two things. One, the obvious which is the offensive line is not performing as he expected. Or two, D-Mac is trying to further motivate them to maximize their potential.
I'm hoping for the latter.

Early reports were we may not see him until Week 2-4 of the season. Latest rumors are he's progressing well and could see the field vs Toledo. They're not rushing anything though with his history with the other knee, not recovering as quickly as expected. | |

I always thought that the last two years we were missing a HUGE playmaker. A Teddy Ginn, If you will. Someone who can go for a 80 yard TD run whenever he touches the ball. I know Blythe is a Playmaker but I am talking about someone with Greasy, Bad-*** speed. Hopefully JJ can be that type of player.

I doubt he'll see the field until Big 12 play. The man has GOT to be rusty.
Also, ISU ran some two back sets a few years ago when we had Seneca. I think it was Rutland and Wagner at the time, but I could be totally off. Anybody else remember this?
I'd like to see some two back, shotgun formations with no TE's, three WR's. That is if Johnson can become a better pass blocker quickly.

Having a power back like Hicks gets the D ready for a certain style, but then you switch backs and it's tough to adjust. I'm really excited about JJ for that reason. Thunder and lightning.

However I was at the coach's clinic at the end of April...we got to watch a practice Friday afternoon inside the indoor facility and a scrimmage on the sidelines at JTS.
While Scales was being held out of contact action, he was in pads both days doing everything else the team was doing. In fact, he put himself into Saturday's scrimmage on a few plays - drawing the ire of coach Alford. He did manage to run the ball a time or two though.
I'll never forget Alford screaming at Scales..."Scales! Get your F'ing azz off the field!" The players were rolling over it.
Say what you want about Jason...the kid wants to play.

Don't mistake my intentions about Scales, I have been wishing that kid the best since he set foot on campus. You need quality guys on a team like him. Honestly, I've had a hetero man-crush on him since he signed.
I just worry about him getting rushed back because he is too eager, and I worry about his rustiness.
Maybe he did practice recently, but Mac said when Scales got his injury that he hasn't practiced in pads for two years. That's a long time. I hope we see him soon on the field, but when he's ready to take the punishment a running back takes.

I am VERY excited to see what our running game is like. Stevie is DEFINATELY a favorite of the players. We got to see the team bfore the Army game last year(our flight was delayed). Everybody talked to Stevie and he smiled the whole time. The rest of the team was definately in small groups. You could really tell what he means to the team by seeing that. I hope he runs hard this year. Go 'clones

I completely understand what you are saying Bryce - just wanted to clarify what I saw.
If the staff thinks he's ready to take the field...I'm all for it...they know better than anyone else. If not, Hicks and Josh "Juice" Johnson aught to take care of business.
