Phillip Bates
Well this guy was all over last night, QB,WR, Safety. I guess there is no redshirt.
I really liked how they are already taking advantage of his hopeful talents. I really like how he looked back at safety, but noticed they stuck the Steve Johnson the rest of the game.
The QB sweep was too predictable unfortunately, and why go shotgun. You make a 3 & 1 to a 3 & 4 situation. That defense sniffed that out way too quick.
Now at WR I know he had the end around, but I believe that was it right? Thats cool to see. No Wallace Franklin, but I hope bates becomes like our Dieon Sanders or something and just players every where and does it well.

Re: Phillip Bates
That was Chris Brown at safety not Bates. Berg had a hamstring problem flare up in practice this week.

Re: Phillip Bates
Seeing bates everywhere pretty much made be feel the coaching staff is confident enough in the new QB recruits and didn't want to waste any time getting Bates talent on the field.

Re: Phillip Bates
What the...? The program being fouled up really irritates me!
I thought Chris Brown was #6?

Re: Phillip Bates
i know it was weird, why the number changes? Bell, Robinson, Brown, etc

But they had Allen Bell wearing #13 on the starting lineup pictures.

Re: Phillip Bates
Maybe Kent States defense sniffed out our plays so quickly because we executed so poorly and slowly. I felt we were in slo-mo most of the game. Im excited to see what Bates and Arnaud can do.

Re: Phillip Bates
Hey we may be on to something. Let's change our numbers every play and they won't know who's coming at em. Shhh, don't tell anybody about our little plan. A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -
Re: Phillip Bates
The numbers were completely hosed last night. I did sent a note to JP today, thanking him for some of the things I really liked and was impressed with (namely the speed in getting out of the parking lot) and brought up some things I was displeased with. The programs being wrong was one of them.
Likely not in his control, but prior to kick-off they could have announced the number changes to those in the stands.

Re: Phillip Bates
Well you can only run a naked bootleg so many times before they read it and pick it off.
The line did well on some plays, but others Bass had to find his own holes.
That QB sweep again was too predictable. Maybe sweep that way and have Sumrall run a streak and then launch it down field.
I did like the end around because it opens up the option of what i spoke of above. Sweep Bates around again and then he throws. I was waiting for that last night but maybe another game.
I swear I thought that was Bates at Saftey, but could be wrong. It made sense as I thought they were looking for some speed back there. Smith got burned a couple times, but their players were quck. Besides the long TD that went over him, the guy just about droped and he had to reach for it.
Now did I see bass at FB and Scales at RB on one play. interesting. We may be seeing more trickery with this team than before. Get Bates in there and there are plenty of options. Just curious on how well he can throw.

Re: Phillip Bates
Those in the boxes had an updated roster with the changed numbers...about ten or so guys had to change their numbers yesterday.....Sandvig also changed his number if you noticed.

Re: Phillip Bates
I'm guessing the number changes were needed because of this...
